As someone who’s spent 10+ years working to bring blockchain and digital assets into the mainstream - bashing my head against regulatory barriers and advocating for understanding and acceptance by policymakers - seeing a U.S. executive order on digital finance is both surreal and a long-awaited milestone. But then, you don't have to look too far to find some early political devils in the details. For one, the Fed is conspicuously absent from the Working Group that this order establishes. It’s hard to ignore the political undercurrents here. President Trump has a long history of frustration with the Fed, whether it was over interest rate decisions or his perceived lack of control over monetary policy. Now, with this order, we’re in a situation where US stablecoin policy could be shaped without the Fed entirely. In some ways, we’ve come a short way in a long time. That is, political pettiness remains as entrenched as ever. But in other ways, we’ve come a long way in a short time.
