Our founder and CEO Corey Axelrod kicked off his session today by making pizza recommendations to those who attended this weekend’s Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and Americans Against Language Barriers 2024 Language Access in Conference in Chicago earlier today. But then he pivoted to a topic near and dear to him and conference attendees: cultural humility and communication access in healthcare. As part, he discussed #TheDDBHHTax and how it manifests in various ways in healthcare settings. Curious to learn more? Check back during this coming week!

So grateful for the opportunity to present about cultural humility and how it manifests in healthcare settings during the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and Americans Against Language Barriers 2024 Language Access in Healthcare Conference today! Not only that, it was great to reconnect with and meet other mover and shakers in the healthcare space, including Vonessa Phillips Costa, Meredith Stegall, Carlos Olvera, CHI, Adriana López de Keegstra, MA, MBA, and Kelly Henriquez. A huge thank you to Kevin Thakkar, the AALB and Lurie Children’s team for all the work that has been put into hosting this phenomenal and much needed conference! #CulturalHumility #Healthcare #DEIA #LanguageAccess #TheDDBHHTax

As Deaf Awareness Month comes to a close, we are honored to be recognized by Disability:IN as not only a Disabled Owned Business Enterprise (DOBE), but as a Deaf-owned business. While we celebrate, we would be remiss if we did not emphasize that creating Deaf awareness should not be confined to a single month. Promoting accessibility, inclusion and equity for Deaf, DeafBlind, hard of hearing and late-deafened individuals should be a year-round endeavor. No matter where your organization is at in your journey, we are ready to be of support – reach out to us at info@2axend.com for more information!

We are excited to announce our partnership with MH3, another disabled-owned business enterprise (DOBE) certified by Disability:IN, to launch an important survey aimed at understanding the experiences Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, and late-deafened individuals have in the workplace. Your responses will help us identify areas for improvement and provide organizations with strategies to enhance emotional well-being and mental health in the workplace for members of our community. Please take a few moments to complete the survey at www.2axend.com/survey.

Yesterday’s Q3 Healthcare Roundtable discussion brought together professionals from United States and Canada for a phenomenal discussion! The conversation about Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) covered everything from internal training and community outreach to determining service-level agreement (SLA) requirements. When we moved on to discuss language assessments as part of addressing Section 1557 requirements, it is evident that each healthcare organization is approaching this differently. Nonetheless, when we all come together to share information and resources, we can create a more equitable and accessible healthcare experience for all Deaf, DeafBlind, hard of hearing and late-deafened individuals. A huge thanks to all who joined us yesterday afternoon! Our Q4 roundtable discussion for healthcare organizations will take place on Thursday, November 21st from 12 – 1:30pm CT. To join us in November, sign up at https://lnkd.in/gWKfD9Hn. #DeafInHealthcare #healthequity

It's been an incredible journey supporting the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) team over the past six months! The Office of Health Equity's Community Partnership & Engagement (CP&E) unit received CDPHE's Innovation Mini Grant and brought us onboard to provide a variety of learning opportunities on how to best apply the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) as it pertains to the greater Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Many who were a part of these learning sessions were joined by other CDPHE team members yesterday as they watched a thought-provoking and authentic lunch and learn conversation between two Deaf individuals: CDPHE's Sheryl Emery and our founder and CEO Corey Axelrod. Thank you to Sheryl Emery and Suzuho Shimasaki for bringing yesterday's conversation to fruition!

It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Sheryl Emery, Suzuho Shimasaki and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) team over these past few months. As a part of celebrating Deaf Awareness Month with an emphasis on cultivating accessibility and equity, and inclusion, we wanted to provide CDPHE team members with an in-depth look into the Deaf and hard of hearing experience through a lunch and learn event. Today, Sheryl and I held nothing back, diving deep into the different experiences both of us have encountered over the years as Deaf individuals. It was incredibly refreshing to have a space where we could share our perspectives openly and honestly. I cherish these types of authentic conversations – thank you, Sheryl, for the opportunity to share the digital stage with you this afternoon. –– ID: Screen capture of the virtual lunch and learn event. The conversation about communication access in healthcare settings needs to include all affected parties, including signing and non-signing Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind and late-deafened individuals. On this note, with respect to the Deaf and hard of hearing community, our founder and CEO Corey Axelrod shared the following about presenting at the TDIforAccess (TDI) NextGen Accessibility Summit: “Unfortunately, it is a common occurrence where hearing individuals literally and figuratively speak on the greater Deaf and hard of hearing community’s behalf. It is for this reason, among many others, I am appreciative of AnnMarie Killian and the TDI team for their work in creating this platform and driving conversations that engage members of the greater Deaf and hard of hearing community." We look forward to continuing to engage in conversations and driving access and, subsequently, healthcare outcomes for the greater Deaf and hard of hearing community!

As TDIforAccess (TDI)’s NextGen Accessibility Summit wraps up, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share the digital stage today with Jan Withers, Jessica Kennedy Eguia, Stephen Framil and Will Ringland as we talked about policies, standards, technologies and best practices in cultivating communication access in healthcare settings for signing and non-signing Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind and late-deafened individuals! As we aim to address systemic changes and enhance healthcare access through policy and technology, all affected parties, including Deaf and hard of hearing community members, need to be at the table. Unfortunately, it is a common occurrence where hearing individuals literally and figuratively speak on behalf of the greater Deaf and hard of hearing community.
