Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism reposted this
This morning, I attended the East Central Illinois Women Attorney Association Annual Retreat where both Patrick Keenan of the University of Illinois College of Law & my co-worker, Mark C. Palmer, of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism spoke about Illinois attorneys' obligation for technological competence in using tools like AI. Patrick & Mark provided great starting points for effective ways to use generative AI and ways that AI might not be useful while practicing law. With a show of hands, more than half of the attorneys in the room had never used AI before. So, one of the most compelling takeaways was provided in the audience question, "If we don't use AI, are we not complying with our technology requirement requirement?" The answer is, no. We are in a place where it's our responsibility to keep up with AI's advancements and to recognize the potential risks and rewards of its use for us and our clients. But, they certainly encourage us to explore using AI right now! #continuedlegaleducation #AI
