2X Challenge

And just like that... we've arrived at the final day of 2024. As we look to 2025, our optimism for the year ahead is fuelled by the knowledge of what we've achieved in the year gone by. Our last recap spotlights our work at the nexus of climate and gender and our ongoing community building.

2024 was a year where we took significant strides forward to shape and shift markets, build the capacity of others and advance standards. 💵 Together with a coalition of public and private sector investors, we launched the third edition of the 2X Challenge - the biggest and most ambitious one yet, with a target of US$20 billion in gender lens investments. 🚀 We wrapped up our the first Asia-Pacific cohort in the 2X Ignite GP Sprint programme and launched and conducted our second Africa cohort. 🥇 We launched 2X Certification, our independent and universally available certification programme to assess gender inclusion in investments. Whether it was advancing our standard-setting work or carrying out and publishing the research that can help move the whole field of gender lens investing forward, our team was hard at work in 2024. As ever - we couldn't do it alone! We're grateful for partners like SAGANA and supporters like the Visa Foundation for the roles they played. We also deeply appreciate all who invited us to share the stage, the mic, the page or web-page this year and who are working every day to advance women's economic empowerment the world over.

The G7 Summit is where the #2XChallenge began back in 2018, with a commitment to invest US$3 billion in women’s economic empowerment. At the close of the 2024 G7 Leaders’ Summit in Italy, the group affirmed its support for the third edition of the 2X Challenge, with a coalition of Development and Multilateral Finance Institutions and private sector investors committing to mobilise US$ 20 Billion in financing for women. This International Women's Day, we're mobilised and motivated by this year's theme 'invest in women, accelerate progress'. Our member FinDev Canada has done just that, investing in a company in Peru focused on doing business in ways that create a great place for women to work.
