  • Does the perfect L&D team structure exist? The clear answer is no—every organization has its own context, challenges, and nuances to contend with. But many L&D leaders still stick to what’s worked in the past. They port their own history onto a new team environment, or copy “best practices” to get through organizational change. David James recently spoke with three L&D experts in L&D change management. Lisa Christensen - McKinsey & Company, Hillary M. - HCA Healthcare, and Christopher Lind - Christopher Lind Co. as they shared stories from decades of combined experience in the field. The key takeaways: - Both centralized and decentralized L&D have pros and cons - Aligning to core business objectives is crucial - Be “anti-rigid,” and remain as flexible as possible - It’s all about people and relationships - Stay humble, and learn as much as you can about your new team #LearningAndDevelopment #TeamStructures #OrganizationalChange

Thank you so much David James and team for hosting the “L&D Next 2025” events over the past week. I was completely hooked! The topics, speakers, and stories shared were incredibly inspiring, and I loved hearing how leaders are moving the dial in the world of L&D within their companies. There were so many valuable takeaways to reflect on, but a few key reassurances for me were: Shared Challenges: Regardless of the industry, the challenges faced by L&D professionals are remarkably similar. Strategic Partnership: L&D needs to be a strategic business partner, driving performance and adding value—not just fulfilling requests. An Exciting Time for L&D: We have a real opportunity to reshape perceptions about who we are and the immense value we bring. Thank you again for all the effort and energy you and the speakers put into making these events such a success. I truly enjoyed every session!👏

  • “There's a huge opportunity for L&D not only to train [teams], but be the architects of the future.” - Anish Lalchandani Job titles, go-to-market plans, and entire industries are evolving at breakneck speed. Organizations should be depending on L&D teams to help navigate through these changes. A simple focus on delivering course materials and certifications is no longer enough. Anish Lalchandani believes that a focus on skills-based learning, hiring, and even employee compensation is the best way to survive and thrive. In this episode of the L&D Podcast, Anish and David James unpack: - How skills-based learning gives organizations a competitive edge - Why a focus on degrees and job titles no longer makes sense in hiring - How the right skills strategy can take a team from good to exceptional - How to position L&D as a driver of business transformation If companies can identify and develop the skills needed for tomorrow—not just the competencies required for today—they’re immune from talent or skills shortages.
