Thank you to Femtech World for the shoutout and spotlight on our most recent milestone and for your mission to close the gender health gap through journalism and insight!    The $4.7 million we’ve raised is opening a new chapter for 3Daughters, allowing us to get ready to move into the clinic next year with our game-changing IUD. This brings us one step closer to our goal of disrupting the IUD market by addressing the major adoption barrier – insertion pain.     Another heartfelt thank you to our investors for their determination and dedication to supporting us and improving therapies for women, beginning with our nonhormonal, frameless IUD (3D-001). "Why is it so hard to get a basic question answered about my IUD?" Mia Armstrong-López's enlightening article in Slate Magazine, an online publication, dives deep into the history of intrauterine devices. It's clear that while IUDs have been proven to be effective and reliable, patient experience hasn’t been a priority. Since the 1970s, IUDs have seen little to no innovation to address this. This is in part because of a lack of funding - annually, more is spent on pet Halloween costumes in the US than is spent globally on contraceptive research and development! Without prioritizing user experience and with gaps in R&D, women struggle to get their questions answered and make informed choices about their birth control methods. At 3Daughters, we're changing this narrative with our simple, smart, and sophisticated novel IUD that conforms to a woman’s body. Exciting times for 3Daughters

#BreakingNews – 3Daughters is thrilled to announce that we have successfully closed an oversubscribed Seed financing round at $4.7 million! This round saw participation from our existing investors including Thairm Bio, Argosy Foundation, Wexford Science & Technology, LLC, University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as new undisclosed investors. Previously, we announced the first tranche of this financing round, exceeding $2M. With 275 million women using IUDs worldwide and with women using birth control for an average of 30 years, there is a critical need for improved options and innovation in the $8 billion U.S. contraceptive market. Thanks to the funding from our investors, we’re able to work on addressing these issues with our frameless, nonhormonal, magnetic IUD (3D-001), along with our patented inserter and retriever system, that aims to eliminate the major pain points that prevent women choosing one of the most effective forms of birth control. We are endlessly grateful to our investors for their steadfast support in our mission for innovation. 3Daughters has launched a Series A financing round of $15M to fund 3D-001’s first-in-human Phase 1 study expected to start following IND approval in 2025. Happy 4th of July from 3Daughters! Many know the stories and legends of Betsy Ross and the American flag, but fewer may know that Betsy had seven children in her lifetime – all of whom were daughters! Her daughters worked by her side in Betsy’s upholstery shop, where she taught them how to be skilled craftswomen, just like herself. Betsy spent many years working alongside her daughters, all the way up until she retired at the age of 76. When she passed away in 1836, she left the business to her five living daughters, who carried on her legacy. Here’s a salute to Betsy Ross, America, and our flag! #4thofjuly #womenshealth #BetsyRoss

IUD use has tripled since 2015. According to Jennifer Calfas from the The Wall Street Journal, it’s because they are:   ✅ Convenient: it’s a “one and done” procedure. ✅ Extremely effective and reliable: they have a failure rate below 0.4%.   Despite these benefits, many women fear the insertion process, which is almost universally known for causing severe pain and lacks adequate pain relief options.   Christine Frandsen, a 27-year-old IUD user quoted in the article, made an appointment for IUD insertion, figuring she could stop the process if the pain became excruciating. She stated, “It was definitely not a pleasant experience. At 3Daughters, we take women’s pain seriously. Jenna Perlman’s recent interview and report for Boston Globe Media sheds light on the excruciating pain that many women, including herself, experience during IUD insertion – a pain that has been brushed aside for far too long. Insertion pain creates a fear factor, discouraging women from adopting one of the most effective, reliable, and convenient forms of contraception. With more awareness, practitioners have begun trying various methods to ease the extreme discomfort of insertion: from paracervical blocks, which are painful in themselves, to sedation. But at 3Daughters, we’re addressing the pain problem at its root through innovation.
