Jana D. Lake and CY Cheng of 3R Sustainability are collaborating with Professor Sara Soderstrom on a University of Michigan course titled Sustainability Consulting and Sports Sustainability! This course will focus on key sustainability topics like materiality assessments, GHG accounting, and standards and frameworks (ISO 20121, FIA 3-Star, etc.). Students will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers who work in the sports industry and other sustainability professionals to gain important skills through hands-on experiential learning.

Preston Buck represented 3R at Arizona State University's Graduate Sustainability Employer Showcase, which hosted students from various graduate programs across the Thunderbird School of Global Management, School of Sustainability, and the W. P. Carey School of Business – Arizona State University. Preston discussed with students what life as a sustainability professional is like, what trends she sees in the field, and how to prepare for a job in corporate sustainability.   "I really enjoyed connecting with the next generation of sustainability professionals. Getting to answer questions about my role at 3R reminded me of how much I love working in this space," said Preston. "The students seemed excited about the option of working for a consultancy like 3R." Other companies in attendance were Microsoft, EY, Intel Corporation, Republic Services, Knight-Swift Transportation, and Phoenix Sustainability Professionals.

This week, Jana D. Lake, CY Cheng, and Vesta Behboodi attended the Sport Positive Summit in London. The Summit is the leading global event bringing together sports stakeholders to support the acceleration of positive climate action and sustainability in sport. Jana, CY, and Vesta shared these four takeaways from their time at the summit: ▫ Urgency of action: Recent natural disasters, such as floods in the UK and hurricanes in the U.S., highlight that sustainability is essential. To take quick action, the "G" is as crucial as the "S" and "E" for sports organizations. ▫ Reporting and regulations: Many sports organizations are now subject to reporting requirements, such as regulatory (e.g. CSRD) and/or partner requests (e.g. EcoVadis). Though the data collection process can be complex, it often uncovers key insights that benefit the entire organization. ▫ Partners are vital: Sustainability provides a way to engage current and new partners who share your goals and values to accomplish more together, faster. ▫ Harness the power of sports: Sports can drive sustainability through collective action and social capital, using their broad influence to inspire change and engage large audiences. As Claire Poole, Founder and CEO of Sport Positive, said in her closing note, "If climate change is a threat multiplier, sports can be the solutions multiplier." #sportssustainability #sustainability #climateaction
