𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱! I am the co-founder of a startup and also a mother to a 5-year-old. I am constantly balancing the needs of both—building a startup and raising a child. There are days when I feel like I’m doing just fine, and then there are days when I feel like I’ve failed at both. And I know I’m not alone in this—there are so many other women like me who are pursuing their career goals while raising young families. While there’s no such thing as a perfect balance, here are some of the things I do to ensure I can focus on both. 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁: One of the things that works really well for me is to be fully present in whatever it is that I’m doing. If I’m playing with my daughter, I make it a point to keep my phone away. That way, I can give her my undivided attention. I try to do the same when I’m working—I minimize distractions from my personal life. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗲: Both—my startup and my daughter—are very important to me. There are days when I’m not at my best at work or not the best with my daughter, and that’s okay. I’ve come to fully appreciate that I’m doing my best, and I don’t let guilt take over on my bad days.
