🚀 tunyabytes Episode 1.3 | Unmatched Talent and Distribution Advantages of Open-Source When it comes to benefitting from the open-source, two of the best examples are Linux and Kubernetes who have attracted some of the world’s best developers through their open-source models. The contributions from a wide range of companies, including Google, Red Hat, and independent developers, have led to unparalleled innovation. 🔷 Kubernetes, especially, has seen massive contributions from developers across industries, helping it become the de facto standard for container orchestration. 🐧 Both projects grew rapidly because they were open, allowing anyone to adopt, adapt, and distribute them widely. Many others like GitLab, Elastic, Vercel have followed—benefiting immensely from the talent and distribution advantages that open-source offers. Tune in to hear Joseph Jacks dive deep into the unmatched advantages!

🚀 tunyabytes Episode 1.2 | Exploring Two Parallel Universes: Open Source vs. Closed Source 🤯 It’s been a wild ride for open-source companies lately. HashiCorp recently moved from open-source to the Business Source License (i.e. retaining greater control over the commercial use of its software), while Elastic and MongoDB have shifted to more restrictive licenses. Umur Cubukcu and Joseph Jacks (JJ) have been steadfast builders and contributors to the open-source community, shaping its evolution in unique ways. 🔹 At Citus Data, Umur's previous company, they transitioned from closed-source to open-source, building trust while driving enterprise sales. Now at Ubicloud, an open-source alternative to AWS, Umur is doubling down on open-source! 🔹 With years of experience investing in and partnering with open-source companies at OSS Capital, JJ brings a wealth of knowledge on how to commercialize community-driven code. In this less-than-5-minute tunyabytes episode, we explore: 🚀 Ubicloud’s strengths beyond being an open-source alternative to AWS. 🔄 An investor’s perspective on the parallel universes of closed source and open source.

⚽𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 early on is essential for founders from Emerging Europe🕸 🥅VC funding is sparse in most emerging markets, but Emerging Europe faces a unique challenge: funding beyond pre-seed and seed is virtually non-existent, but for a good reason! 🥇90%+ of all funding in Emerging Europe came from outside, with the US leading. 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 🏟 🏆Founders are aware of this and are always proactively looking for support to accelerate the process🔴⚪

Pythagora (YC W24) has just raised $4 million in seed funding for its open-source dev tool that builds entire apps from scratch just by talking to you. There's always a need for software development, but it can be expensive. Large Language Models (LLMs) are great at writing code snippets but struggle with building full apps. They lack the ability to iterate and adapt like human developers do. However, all these tasks in software development are repetitive and predictable. Founded by Zvonimir Sabljić, Leon Ostrez, and Senko Rašić, Pythagora is an open-source tool that builds apps from scratch by talking to users. Using LLMs, Pythagora automates developer workflows (debugging, refactoring, etc.) and asks user questions whenever it needs feedback. It's an IDE extension built on top of their open-source tool, GPT Pilot, which has over 28k Github stars. You start by describing an app you want to build; then, it asks you questions about the details of the app to write the full app specifications. Once the specs are done, it starts coding. When it finishes a task, it asks you to test the app and tell it if something is incorrect. It iterates with you by changing the code and asking you for feedback until the task is finished. Finally, it commits the code it has written and proceeds to the next task until the entire app is finished. Congrats to the team on the round!
