Curation - a publisher’s friend or foe? While #curation was a burning topic during Base.Camp Denver last week, there’s also been skepticism among publishers as to whether curation platforms are working in their best interests. Top three perceptions? 1. Curation platforms “rounding up inventory to sell cheaply at scale, leaving publishers with scraps” 2. As third-party data gets harder to find, the only "good" data = small pockets of first-party data 3. A finite view into first-party interactions. Amid the buzz around the demise of the cookie, is it time to talk about the demise (or not) of #ipaddress? This week, in the Beeler.Tech community, publishers have been doing exactly that. Specifically, which IP intelligence partners to use and how a business based on an IP address hopes to survive with IP addresses effectively being deprecated. Our take at 5x5? 🔹 Full deprecation is unlikely to happen, as IP addresses are a fundamental aspect of IT and infrastructure security, and preventing DOS attacks. 🔹 Instead, we’ll likely see an EU-style obfuscation that would eliminate an octet of the IP address in the bid stream. 🔹 The result? A few weeks ago Google announced that they were going to continue to support the third party cookie… Shortly after, they implemented technologies that make it difficult for e-mail service providers, sales acceleration, marketing automation, and a myriad of other technology platforms that depend on pixel and attribution leveraging the e-mail communication channel. As a membership organization 5x5 has responded by making our data management platform (DMP) available to any and all platforms that are looking to provide attribution and conversion based on website visitors to assist in the calculation of ROI through the e-mail channel.
