Merc3POV Week 4 Recap: Mercenaries vs Dragons As we dive into Week 4 of the Helvetic Mercenaries' season, I want to touch base on all three aspects of the game: Offense, Special Teams, and Defense. Offense: One thing stood out in this game—the guys came ready to fight for a win. Helvetic is beginning to find its niche, especially with the success they've had on the ground. I would love to see them explore more ground game action and formations. They’ve proven they can throw the ball, and now they've shown they can run it too. If they can mix up their plays at the right times, Helvetic could become a formidable offensive force. However, despite their success on the ground, they were plagued by sacks early in the game. If they can limit these sacks and maintain a stable pocket, I believe their receiving corps can get the job done. Special Teams: It’s often said that Special Teams are crucial to winning a game, and today’s performance highlighted this truth. Helvetic failed to score a kick, which clearly indicates an area needing improvement. If they can identify and fix the issues here, they will have a stronger chance to close out tight games. Defense: Once again, Helvetic showcased the stopping power of their defense, allowing only two touchdowns from a strong offense. Those touchdowns were hard-earned. From watching both this week and last, it's evident that communication is improving but still has room for growth—something to be expected from a new franchise. These guys are showing signs of cohesion, and once they fully click on all levels, they will be a force to be reckoned with, potentially forming a "Steel Curtain" defense. Despite losing this battle, Helvetic did not lose the war. There are many lessons to be learned from this game. With the right corrections, a bit more urgency, and improved communication, this team will be explosive. They need to find a way to tap into that hidden energy and apply it to every single play. Merc3POV Helvetica Mercenaries Breakdown: 2024 Season Week 3 vs Milan Seamen In a hard-fought battle, the Helvetica Mercenaries faced a tough loss against the Milan Seamen. Despite the outcome, the Mercenaries displayed gratitude and tenacity on both sides of the ball. However, it's clear that every week, we need more than just talent to secure victories. We must return to the basics—the fundamentals we’ve mastered that brought us to this level of play. Defensive Analysis Allowing only 14 points against an explosive Seamen offense is commendable. Holding a high-powered offense to just two scores should typically translate into a win. However, when the offense struggles, the defense must step up even more to secure the victory. Our defense faltered by giving up unnecessary big plays, a direct lack of being fundamentally sound. The Defense needs to sharpen their vision in pass conversions. Playing from depth and moving downhill is crucial. If something other than the football is pulling you downhill, it signals that something is happening behind you. The Secondary must maintain their depth, being the deepest players on the field, while linebackers need to keep climbing for position, keeping the game in front of them. Executing assignments with precision is key. Take your eyes off the prize(the football) occasionally to understand where it’s going. Scan the field, know where you are, know where you’re going, and execute your assignments. This mindset and game plan could’ve potentially made the game 21-0 in our favor. On the field, you must either SEE EVERYTHING OR SEE NOTHING. Mercenaries, let's tighten up, refocus on the basics, and turn this season around with the relentless energy and discipline that defines us.
