Thanks again to the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce for thinking of Andrew Hewitt and our Bottleworks Project to host a walking tour for Roland Grise 7th graders participating in the Career and Leadership Development Academy. Hopefully they gained as much from us as we gained from them. There were some great #adaptivereuse ideas proposed by these future leaders for one our upcoming projects. Meet Kasey Smith of Kasey Smith Interiors with her new design studio at our Bottle Works building. We sat down with Kasey to learn more about her business and why she selected one of our retail spots. Here's what she had to say... Q: How did you get into interior design? A: I have a degree in graphic design and have been around the world doing lots of artistic things, but fell in love with interior design about five years ago. Then I bought a house and realized decorating it was one of my favorite things. Beginning an interior designer feels like a culmination of my artistic past getting to explore my background in fine art, graphic design and photography. Q: Why the Bottle Works building? A: It's an up-and-coming district close to my house and a central location for all my clients. I was at The Ibis having a coffee and saw there was a "for lease" sign and I thought I could live a few doors down from here. Q: What do you hope to add to the neighborhood? A: I feel like creative energy is contagious and it's already here, which is exciting. We hope to add to that energy. Q: As developers we practice "placemaking" and delivering a sense of community with our projects. What does the term "placemaking" mean to you? A: Placemaking as a designer is giving someone a space that feels like home and where they can fully be themselves, which is how I already feel in my design studio here. It's easy and comfortable and there is a good sense of community.
