Making workplaces everywhere more loving and human.

About us

A Human Workplace is a boutique consultancy that guides leaders and teams to make work more loving and human. AHW has more than 30 affiliated practitioners in the US and UK who are committed to putting love at the center of work and who are experts in culture transformation, leadership presence, and human-centered teams. They stand for loving human workplaces because they know this is a better way of working: It’s better for team members, better for customers and stakeholders, better for organizations, and ultimately better for society. It's time to put love at the center and create a more human workplace! A Human Workplace programs are based on the primary qualitative research and practices of Founder Renée Smith, MSOD, who collected and analyzed the stories of hundreds of people to learn from their experiences of love and fear in the workplace. AHW Facilitators, Coaches, Trainers, and Consultants combine these insights on love and fear with their unique backgrounds to inspire, teach, and equip leaders, teams, and organizations to grow workplaces that are high-performing and exceptional places to work. AHW offers talks, gatherings, workshops, and customized culture programs that affirm and uplift human dignity and success at work, wherever that work takes place. You won’t find this unique approach, resources, and commitment anywhere else!

Struggling to lead with love in a fear-focused workplace? One of the most common questions heard during keynotes and consultations about building loving, human workplaces is: "How can leaders be convinced to embrace Leading with Love so that others can lead with love too?" This challenge is real. Many have experienced the difficulty of believing in Loving Leadership while others in the organization remain skeptical or uninterested. To help, Renée Smith has created a special resource that outlines seven practical shifts that leaders in fear-focused organizations can use to start Leading with Love, even when the broader organization isn’t ready. These strategies have been tested and proven through research, interviews, and workshops with leaders and teams across hundreds of organizations. When we hear the phrase "love in the workplace," it can feel distant, even uncomfortable; something we associate more with romance than with our professional lives. We often think of love as something that just happens, something beyond our control.   But Renée Smith likes to invite you to see love differently as an experience and actions we need in every facet of our lives.   bell hooks, the insightful writer and cultural critic, reminds us that love isn’t just a feeling. It’s a practice. It requires intention, effort, and dedication.    In the workplace, love isn’t about sentimentality but about how we show care, respect, and commitment in our daily interactions and decisions.   This isn't new. Love as a guiding principle in leadership has been with us for generations.   Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, believed love was the foundation of peaceful coexistence. He said, "Sooner or later all the people of the world will have to discover a way to live together in peace... The foundation of such a method is love."   Mahatma Gandhi, leading India’s nonviolent struggle for independence, also saw love as a powerful force for change. He taught, “Whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love.”   These leaders understood that love is not passive. It’s an active, powerful force.    So what if we embraced this idea in our workplaces? What if love wasn’t something we viewed as out of place but instead became the lens through which we made decisions, collaborated, and led?   We invite you to pause and reflect. How might things shift in your own work environment by leading and working with love? ❤

As a leader, it’s so easy to get swept up in the urgencies, pressures, targets, and the countless other things on your to-do list that you forget…   TO PAUSE.   But why is pausing so important?   Because only when you take a moment to pause and reflect can you truly see if things are unfolding as they should. Whether your customers are getting what they need, if you're on the right path, or if it’s time to adjust course.   In the latest episode of Renée Smith's series To Work: With Love on the Gut+Science podcast, she explores how reflection has become a powerful tool for her as a leader, and share a few questions that help her find clarity in this space.   Tune in: https://lnkd.in/dq5PnbNd and let us know what resonates with you most. #ahumanworkplace #reflection #makeworkmorehuman #podcast

Then I'd be thrilled to welcome you to the first small cohort of experienced and like-hearted leaders! The 4-month journey starts at the end of September. I do this by combining two masterclasses with two - four coaching session, two peer circles, and two email challenges. I believe this is the most effective combination of options I've ever offered!
