Founder/CEO of A Jam (Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub) | Building Methix | Passionate about Equity in the Global Music Industry

Confession time: I’m a natural overthinker (yes, #VirgoLife) — but being an entrepreneur has taught me that overthinking can’t sit in the driver’s seat. Especially when it comes to making fast, sure decisions in the moment, I’ve had to learn to trust my gut, follow my instincts, and make the call. Recently, I found myself making a lot of decisions — some tiny, some career-defining. Here’s what I’ve realized: 1️⃣ Spotting Red Flags: Right now, we’re hiring for our spring internship program, and I’ve become laser-focused on identifying potential fit (or not) right away. That little detail you catch in the corner of your eye? It often tells you more than an entire resume. Seeing those small indicators can predict future outcomes, and knowing what to look for has helped me get decisive fast. 2️⃣ Making the Hard Calls: Letting go of team members? This was something I never thought I’d handle quickly. I care about people and their outcomes — but I’ve learned that being too attached to emotions can cloud judgment. I’ve challenged myself to think logically and to trust the truth in the decision, even when it’s tough. And it’s been transformative. Now, I’m able to say what needs to be said and keep moving forward. 3️⃣ Setting Boundaries: I’ve even had people come back and ask to reverse the decision to let them go. Of course, it’s not easy. But I’ve learned to stand firm in my choices. I’ve realized that being a fast decision-maker isn’t about not caring; it’s about setting boundaries, staying focused on what’s best for the business, and supporting my team in the best way possible. _____________________________________ Hi, I’m Arnaecia, founder and CEO of A Jam and Methix HQ, providing ethical homes for music artists to advance their careers by redefining the music-technology space If you made it this far, I’d love to connect with you! So, let me be real for a second—when I decided to build a music (A Jam) and tech (Methix HQ) app for independent artists, I knew my strengths. And spoiler alert: they weren’t in coding! 🙃 I may not be a developer, but one of the most important things I’ve learned as a non-technical founder is this: You don’t need to have all the tech skills to support your team. What you do need is the ability to find and provide resources, networks, and guidance so they can do their best work. And I absolutely LOVE doing that! Mentorship? That’s my jam. (Pun intended.) 🎤 Here’s the thing—building an MVP is a team sport, and even though I’m not the one writing the code, I’m always looking for ways to make the process smoother for my tech team. I might not be elbow-deep in GitHub repos, but I am constantly researching new tools, connecting them with top-notch advisors, and finding resources to help lighten their load. Think about it this way: the best gift you can give your team isn’t micromanaging—it’s empowering them with the right tools and people so they can focus on what they do best. Here’s why this matters: ✅ Reputable Network of Advisors: I’m always thinking about the bigger picture—who do we know that can help us scale faster? Who’s been through this before and can share insights? Connecting your team with mentors who’ve been there, done that is game-changing. ✅ Resources Are Key: Tech moves FAST, and while I might not be the expert in coding, I can 100% find new resources, frameworks, and platforms that make my team’s job easier. If there’s a tool out there that cuts time in half, I’m on it. ✅ Creating Space for Innovation: By giving your team access to the right resources, they’re freed up to focus on solving creative and technical challenges. When they don’t have to waste energy searching for solutions, that’s when the real magic happens. I truly believe that the role of a founder, technical or not, is to support their team. It’s about creating an environment where people feel empowered to solve problems—and that often means making sure they have access to the best networks and tools. So, to all my non-technical founders out there: You don’t need to know how to code to be a great leader in tech. What you need is the dedication to learn alongside your team, find ways to support them, and connect them with the people and resources that’ll help them succeed. 💪🏾 Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find the next killer resource for my team. Maybe something that’ll write code for them so they can kick back with a cup of coffee… just kidding (sort of). ☕️💻 #TechLeadership #Mentorship #FounderLife #MusicAndTech #AWomanWhoJams 🎶💻
