About us
Founded in 1972, A.R.T./New York assists more than350 member theatres in managing their theatre companies effectively so they may realize their rich artistic visions and serve their diverse audiences well. Over the years, A.R.T./New York has earned a reputation as a leader in providing progressive services to our members - from shared office and rehearsal spaces, to the nation's only revolving loan fund for real estate, to technical assistance programs for emerging theatres—which have made our organization an expert in the needs of the New York City nonprofit theatre community. A.R.T./New York supports non profit theatre companies in New York City by providing four core programs: Funding, Training, Space, and Connections.

These new perspectives, skills, and experiences will help ensure that NYC theatremakers have the resources they need. Meet them below and drop a 👋 in the comments to welcome them! FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: 🎭 Mike Maechling (he/him) is a Managing Director at Apollo, overseeing Private Credit Secondaries, with a background at AEA Investors, Investcorp International Inc., and Credit Suisse First Boston. A theatre enthusiast, Mike enjoys attending Broadway shows and supporting local productions with his family, and he looks forward to contributing his experience to A.R.T./New York. 🎭 Priya Kamdar (she/her) is a Senior Manager at PwC specializing in innovation, change management, and building inclusive environments across various sectors, using design-thinking and agile methodologies to drive transformation. A passionate theatre-goer and proud NYC resident, Priya believes in the power of storytelling to create change and is excited to support A.R.T./New York in amplifying new, diverse voices in the non-profit theatre industry. 🎭 James Clements (he/him) is a Scottish actor, writer, and arts educator based between New York and Scotland, with performances at La Mama, BRIC, and HERE, and writing/directing credits at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and Dundee Rep. He is Co-Artistic Director of What Will the Neighbours Say? and teaches at Marymount Manhattan College and NYU Tisch. 🎭 Sam Hood Adrain (he/him) is a New York City-based actor, director, educator, and producer who has worked with numerous theatre companies across the country, including Trinity Repertory Company, MCC Theater, and Audible. He is a 2021 BroadwayWorld Award recipient for Best Director and serves as Co-Artistic Director of What Will the Neighbors Say? while also teaching at Marymount Manhattan College. 🎭 Becky Leifman (she/her) is the Co-Founder of CO/LAB Theater Group and Treasurer for the Museum, Arts, and Culture Access Consortium. With over a decade of experience in theater, nonprofit, and disability industries, she is passionate about creating a more accessible cultural field and has worked with organizations like Trusty Sidekick Theater Company, The New Group, and MCC Theater. Becky served as Director of Community Engagement on Broadway's How to Dance in Ohio.
