A survey of our clients revealed that “stigma” surrounding mental health counseling was the most common reason for not seeking therapy in the past. Other prominent barriers included time, cost, and navigation of the mental health system. By providing mental health therapy to clients on-site on our Lake Worth campus, Program REACH family shelter, and the Homeless Resource Center, we are removing obstacles to help make therapy more accessible and less stigmatized for the parents and children we serve. As of our last report, 63% of clients who attended 3+ sessions were attending voluntary therapy for the first time.

Our Director of Agency Relations, Layren Calvo, was honored to visit Publix on Palm Beach as part of their weeklong workplace campaign for Town of Palm Beach United Way. Layren talked to store associates about Adopt-A-Family’s programs and services, highlighting how their support of the United Way will in turn support local nonprofits working to improve the lives of county residents who need a helping hand. We are grateful for our longstanding partnership with both Publix and the Town of Palm Beach United Way.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s 2024 “Out of Reach” report, a single parent needs to earn $42.81/hour to afford fair market rent in Palm Beach County, making it the second most expensive housing market in the state. Our Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2) provides 24 truly affordable rental units for low-income households who cannot keep up with the community’s exorbitant rental rates. With rent for the two- and three-bedroom units ranging from $700-$800, low-income families can comfortably manage their rent payment and all other household bills, which enables them to maintain long-term stability and pursue their goals.

Adopt-A-Family is incredibly fortunate for the partnership of Kingdom Charitable Trust. Grants awarded to two of our key programs, Project Grow and the Housing Stabilization Program, will impact hundreds of local families and children in need of a helping hand. Thank you to everyone at Kingdom Charitable Trust for your generous support of the families served by our agency. Your thoughtful philanthropy has strengthened our community.
Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, Inc. has been a cornerstone of support for homeless families in Palm Beach County since 1983, growing into the largest service provider in the region. A Kingdom Charitable Trust grant will support two critical initiatives: the Housing Stabilization Program and Project Grow. This grant will assist 135 families through the Housing Stabilization Program, which is designed to prevent homelessness for low-income families facing eviction due to a financial crisis. By providing short-term rental assistance along with strengths-based case management, budget counseling, and referrals to essential services, the program ensures families remain stably housed while they regain their financial footing and work toward self-sufficiency. Additionally 75 youth will be supported in Project Grow, an afterschool program that helps students overcome academic challenges, heal from emotional trauma, foster a love for learning, maintain consistent attendance, and set them on a positive path for the future. #KingdomCharitableTrust #KCT #AdoptAFamily #AdoptAFamilyPBC #PalmBeachCounty #Florida #Philanthropy #Community

We were grateful to have staff from Community Partners of South Florida on-site at Program REACH’s Back to School Bash on August 8 to provide parents with information on their wide range of health, housing, and parenting services. Our partnership with Community Partners extends to participants of our Housing Stabilization Program and Service Enriched Housing programs as well - clients are frequently linked to their excellent financial capability and homeownership courses.

Adopt-A-Family’s work began in 1983, when three Palm Beach County women rallied the community to “adopt” a family of four who had become homelessness. Our founders made it their mission to help this family find a place to live, walking beside them until they were back on their feet. In the forty years since that first family was served, Adopt-A-Family has had the honor of working with nearly 60,000 local families in need of a stable place to call home. In this season of gratitude, we want to extend our sincere thanks to every member of our community who has enabled us to do this important work: volunteers, donors, advisors, board members past and present, partner nonprofits, staff members, and the families we have had the honor to know and serve. Tomorrow, we are thrilled to share a video that documents the agency’s beginnings and growth - a film that highlights the work of our founders, early volunteers, and the three amazing individuals who have served as the agency’s Executive Directors. Today, we thank every one of our supporters, past and present, near and far, for being a part of our story and allowing us to meet the needs of families who need a helping hand. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. #Celebrating40years #Gratitude #Thankful
