Very impressive!
NASA’s SPHEREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization and Ices Explorer) space telescope was recently subjected to acoustic testing at BAE Systems. This test reproduces the high frequency (> 100 Hz) sound wave pressure that the vehicle will experience during launch. There are two methods for performing such a test. The first uses a specialized acoustic test chamber with drive horns that generate sound pressure levels to a specified acoustic spectrum. The other method, used for SPHEREx, is to surround the space vehicle with loudspeaker towers of the kind used at rock concerts. It is an awesome experience to feel the acoustic power of a launch vehicle. Photo by BAE Systems.

THROWBACK THURSDAY... To our contributions to the Roman Space Telescope, including the High Gain Antenna, the Wide Field Imager (WFI) Optic Bench among other components. It’s an honor to be named in the recent article highlighting our team's efforts to bring this groundbreaking telescope to life! It’s inspiring to know that our contributions are helping pave the way for discoveries that could reshape our view of the cosmos. 🛰️ Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gv6VQJgF #AASC #Aerospace #NASA #RomanSpaceTelescope

THROWBACK THURSDAY... Looking back at our journey with Cygnus, it’s hard to believe that it’s been over a decade since we first tested the Cygnus ORB D1 Service Module- in the fall of 2010! Our initial test was a monumental effort, involving approximately 12 servohydraulic actuators with force capacities ranging from 7,000 to 100,000 lbs. We used over 400 strain channels and employed laser tracking technology to capture structural deflection at discrete points on the structure in three directions to obtain displacement vector. Since then, we have expanded our testing capabilities dramatically, integrating a wider range of actuators, now spanning from 600 to 220,000 lbs. Our commitment to monitoring the health and behavior of our structures during testing is unwavering. We can independently control up to 32 actuators at one time, while simultaneously monitoring and plotting up to 500 channels of strain and deflection. Just this week Northrop Grumman successfully launched the 21st Cygnus mission to the ISS for NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Here’s to many more successful missions and innovations in space exploration! #AASC #Aerospace #Cygnus #InternationalSpaceStation
