"I have been a road driver at our ABF Freight Salt Lake City service center for three years but have been a freight hauler for 21 years accident-free! I got into the trucking industry because I thought it would always provide job security and be something I could fall back on if I needed work. However, after doing it for a while, I fell in love with the open road and decided to make it my primary career. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, backpacking, and cooking when I'm not working. ABF has been an amazing place to work, and I wish I had come here a long time ago. When I started driving trucks, I did it the old-school way, learning by trial and error as I went along. However, I recommend proper training for a new driver, such as the ABF Driver Development Program. My best advice for any drivers, truckers, or regular cars is to leave plenty of space between you and the person in front of you. It gives you more time to react to any scenario." — Ryan Salisbury

"I will soon celebrate 20 years of service with ABF Freight at our Kansas City, MO service center! I've been driving cars, farm tractors and semi-trucks since I was 11 on a farm in Eastern Arkansas. So, trucking was a no-brainer for me! My favorite part of my ABF career has been my lifelong friendships with my colleagues. I think of these people as great friends and family! I am one of two instructors in the Driver Development Program, where I enjoy helping new drivers learn the rules of the road. Forklift and CDL training are essential tools for new drivers and dock workers, while always prioritizing safety whenever they get behind the wheel. My hobbies are golfing, fishing, hunting and family!" — Phillip Johnson

“I recently celebrated over eight years of accident-free driving with our ABF Atlanta, GA service center. I received my first million-mile award and came in third at the Georgia TDC in the flatbed class earlier this year! I knew I wanted to be in the trucking industry from a very early age. Growing up next to I–75 and seeing all the trucks go by my house every day, I knew one day I wanted to drive one of those trucks. In 1994, I got my CDL license, and before working for ABF, I ran through all 48 contiguous states and 9 Canadian provinces. One of the highlights of my ABF career was representing ABF at the National Truck Driving Championship in Indianapolis last year. I won first place in Georgia in the flatbed class! Another highlight was being nominated and then accepted to the ABF Road Team. It didn't hit me initially, but I'm on the Road Team during ABF's 100th Anniversary. To me, that was an honor! I like to spend time with my family when I'm not driving. I enjoy anything auto racing, and I love to travel with my wife when we get the chance.” – Joey Martel
