We’ve all seen spam emails, but what other ways do breaches occur? This eye-opening data from Collectors Insurance Agency, Inc.®'s cyber insurance partner Coalition, Inc. certainly shows one thing: breachers are evolving and expanding their attempts in more creative and sinister ways. What is the cost of NOT attending the #CybersecurityRiskForum? How could a breach hurt you? Let’s break it down: 𝟏. 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞: You’ve worked hard to build your reputation and your existing client relationships. With a breach and the public knowledge of it, your competitors might work overtime to pick up your clients. A cyber incident reduces trust—and requires extra effort to get back. As you present to prospective clients, this issue may tarnish your score.  𝟐. 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬: Federal and state government agencies, as well as the plaintiffs’ bar, often pursue class-action claims on data breaches. These are expensive, last a long time and consume both financial and management resources.  𝟑. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞: Here are two real-world examples of ransom notes companies have received in the event of a cyber breach. If you’re unprepared when such a message arrives, the situation can quickly become overwhelming. Without proper planning, your response might inadvertently worsen the crisis.  𝟒. 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬:  Even a short interruption in your business services due to a cyber incident can be catastrophic to your bottom line. Employee time is wasted, operations are halted or altered, and goals have to be pushed back. All of this leads to missed opportunities and a harder hole to dig out of after your incident.
