Knowing Life Matters Since 1981

About us

In 1981, Acadian Air Med became the first aeromedical provider in the Gulf of Mexico. Today, with decades of onshore and offshore experience responding to victims in areas where access by ground ambulance is difficult or impossible, Acadian Air Med is a national leader in air ambulance medical transports, flying more first response missions than any other air medical program in the country. For emergency transports, Air Med operates an extensive fleet of medically configured helicopter ambulances. Our bases are strategically located in Lafayette, Houma, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Hammond and Monroe, Louisiana. For extended medical transports across the continental United States, we also operate a collection of fixed-wing units, including Learjet 35 aircraft. The Air Med crew is a team of compassionate critical care flight RNs and paramedics, held to the same notable standards as our highly accredited Acadian Ambulance Service division, transporting adult and pediatric patients. Our nationally registered CCT flight paramedics are cross-trained as flight controllers/coordinators to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care possible. Extensive treatment protocol includes stroke care, acute coronary syndrome treatment, advanced trauma life support and rapid sequence induction using operating room procedures. Air Med's Rotor Wing Operations are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, the gold standard for air ambulance services in the United States. All of our rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft are equipped with technologically advanced diagnostic and life support medical equipment. All FAA Part 135 aviation services provided by Metro Aviation, Inc., which maintains exclusive operational control over all aircraft.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of Acadian Air Med Chief Flight Nurse/Education Supervisor Toni Blanchard. Toni originally joined Acadian in 1992 as an EMT. She had been with Air Med since 2016 as a certified flight registered nurse and flight paramedic before she became our chief flight nurse and education supervisor. She was responsible for teaching and tracking all CAMTS education and credentialing requirements for all flight nurses and flight paramedics. She managed the RN clinical practice clearance and auditing of flight nurse documentation and she oversaw Air Med's blood program. “Toni was the heart and the den mother of Air Med. She was always there for her staff to discuss problems or concerns while also helping each staff member keep themselves held to the highest expectations of performance. Her biggest impact to Air Med was taking orientation and training to its highest level, and the benefactors were the patients we serve, the community, the flight crews and Air Med as a whole. Some people can go through life wondering if they made a difference. But not Toni, she made the biggest difference,” said Program Director Marc Creswell. Her loss will be deeply felt throughout our Air Med family. We ask that you keep her family and friends in your prayers during this difficult time.
