Earlier today the Office for National Statistics released the latest figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) which tracks and records crime against households and people over a 12-month period. The CSEW is based on interviews with victims of crime and is considered one of the best measures of crime trends over time. Some highlights from the report featuring trends in fraud: 🔹 In the period between July 2023 to year ending June 2024 overall fraud incidents increased to 3.56 million, a rise of 7%. 🔹 Retail fraud saw a notable rise of 19%, reaching approximately 963,000 incidents. 🔹 2.7 million recorded fraud incidents involved a loss of money or property, of which the victim was fully reimbursed in 1.9 million incidents. 🔹 6.2% of the population of England and Wales experienced some form of fraud, an increase of 0.2% compared to June 2023. 🔹 Police recorded crime figures estimate that one in seven fraud offences were reported to the police or Action Fraud, 11% higher that June 2023.
