It’s exciting to see partnerships like ours come to life, driving innovation and opportunity for the next generation of the defense manufacturing workforce! ⚓
Industrial Base Workforce Initiatives & Growing Partnerships In an effort to bolster the defense-manufacturing workforce, the U.S. Navy is supporting several new initiatives and programs, including the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) Program, by investing critical funding to help train and produce the next generation of skilled workers. ATDM, a first-of-its-kind initiative, located at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) campus in Danville, Virginia, offers a rigorous, fast-track curriculum designed to produce graduates with the critical skills needed for immediate employment in the submarine industrial base. With instructors boasting decades of real-world experience, the ATDM program ensures that graduates are not only highly skilled but also job-ready. The program's structure allows for a rapid transition from training to employment, with students completing 600 hours of instruction – equivalent to a one-year certificate program at a community college – in just 16 weeks. Since an initial “fact-finding” visit in March 2023, TRF-KB has sent representatives to Danville several times over the last 19-months for job fairs resulting in several hires in skills like welding and non-destructive testing, including the most recent visit to the ATDM campus earlier this month. “A key to successful hiring is looking for the people who are eager to learn, have the drive to succeed, and want to be part of the vital and critical TRF-KB mission,” says Dena Roberts, Manpower and Personnel Officer, who was part of the initial visit in 2023, and the most recent visit to ATDM earlier this month. “Graduates of ATDM have that drive and eagerness; and they are ready and able to put their new skills to use in maintaining our critical submarine assets.” In addition to recruiting graduates from ATDM, TRF-KB has several employees currently enrolled in the Naval Aviation School for Additive Manufacturing (NASAM) course also located in Danville. Graduates emerge from the six-week Additive Manufacturing course with industry-recognized certifications in critical skills like additive manufacturing, CNC machining, quality control inspection (metrology), non-destructive testing, and welding. A handful of TRF-KB employees have already graduated from the course. ATDM and NASAM are shining examples of innovation and opportunity within the defense-manufacturing sector. The strategic partnerships with manufacturers provide students with hands-on experience using state-of-the-art technology and equipment … And through the partnerships forged with the ATDM program and NASAM course, TRF-KB continues to recruit, train, and benefit from the Navy’s workforce investment in these initiatives. #trfkb #fixsubmarines #wefixsubmarines #thespearstartshere 🔱 #BESTofGEORGIA #werehiring #skilledworkers #SkilledProfessionals #workforcedevelopment Build Submarines The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research BlueForge Alliance
