Balancing Efficiency and Integrity: Where Should Employers Draw the Line? The recent controversy involving EY firing employees for attending multiple training sessions simultaneously raises critical questions about workplace expectations and the balance between efficiency and integrity. With employees citing mixed messaging and intense workloads as contributing factors, this situation highlights the need for clearer guidelines and realistic expectations for both productivity and ethical standards. Employers should strive to communicate training requirements transparently while considering the impact of workload on employees’ decision-making. Setting clear policies and providing realistic timelines can help foster a culture of compliance and well-being. #HRLeadership #WorkplaceEthics #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkCulture #hr #hrconsulting https://lnkd.in/gTUM_xMX

Ahmad Al Cheikh Hassan, CIPD We've found that a truly strong culture extends beyond just day-to-day operations—it’s also about how you treat those who leave and, most importantly, how you welcome them back. When employees decide to pursue other opportunities and then return, it’s a testament to the environment we’ve built. It shows that the company’s culture left a lasting positive impression, making them want to come back. Welcoming returning employees isn’t just about filling roles—it’s about showing that you value growth, second chances, and the contributions people make both inside and outside of your organization. This kind of open-door approach is a powerful sign of a culture that nurtures trust, loyalty, and mutual respect. And when people feel they can return, they bring new perspectives and deeper commitment, which only strengthens the team further.

10 Signs of AWESOME Company Culture: 1. Your boss excitedly tells your team she's taking her son to football practice early on Wednesday afternoons. 2. You hear laughter, often. 3. Innovation and failures are welcomed, not feared. 4. The company handbook is written in simple, plain language. 5. Your colleagues come from different backgrounds and nationalities. 6. Meetings start on time. 7. Your kids are welcome to drop-in at any time. 8. You're rarely the smartest person in a meeting. 9. Gossip is shut down quickly. 10. You're trusted to work from home. Company culture is not a sentence you write in your employee handbook. It's how your team behaves when no-one's looking. Your strategy might be perfect, but without the right culture, you're dead. It's in the small details and daily interactions where true culture shines. It's leaders who lead by example, and colleagues who support each other without hesitation. When people feel valued and trust each other, they bring their whole selves to work. Productivity flourishes, and creativity knows no bounds. Is your company culture nurturing growth and authenticity? #hr #humanresources #employeeexperience #talent #hiring #leaders #people #leadership #jobs #jobseekers #culture #culturematters #business #growth #branding #strategy #hrstrategy #interviews #tips #linkedin #linkedinconnections #talentnexa #aach

Thank you Janelle Nickolay for bringing this up. This is a crucial point that every organization should be mindful of. Actions like this not only undermine internal confidence but can also create legal risks that could have been avoided with clearer communication and a well-thought-out strategy. Leaders need to ask themselves: Are we making decisions that align with our values and long-term goals? And are we being transparent in how we execute them? Trust is hard to build and easy to lose—especially with decisions that affect people's livelihoods.

Strategic Partner | Driving Business Success Through Talent, Compliance & Workplace Culture | Empowering Organizations to Thrive

I recently came across a concerning situation where a company eliminated the position of their HR Director, laid them off, and then, just two weeks later, promoted their HR Generalist to that same role but slightly changed the title. Let’s be clear: if a company has deemed a position unnecessary enough to eliminate it, promoting someone into that role shortly thereafter raises significant questions. Not only does this practice undermine the original decision to cut the position, but it can also expose the company to legal ramifications, particularly around wrongful termination and inconsistent treatment of employees. Don’t be this company. It’s crucial to have a clear understanding of your organizational needs and to make decisions that align with those needs. Transparency and consistency are vital in maintaining trust and protecting your organization from potential legal challenges.
