Over the last three years, Dr McDonald Lewanika and myself have been working on advancing the political settlements concept in the City of Harare under the African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC) as part of our work at Accountability Lab. We have sought to unpack the interaction of the political settlement(at national and subnational levels) and its impact on development outcomes. Part of our work includes integrating the PS framework with ACRC's domains. One such domain being the Informal Settlements. Today I am happy to share with you our most recent Case Study on the Urban Informality Forum in Zimbabwe. This is a piece we have co-authored together with Thomas Karakadzai and Kate Lines.

Last week, I had the privilege of participating in an event hosted by Accountability Lab Nepal as one of the #Accountapreneur. The experience was both enriching and inspiring as we delved into various aspects of organization building. From #IdeaPitching and impact harvesting to feedback mechanisms, collaboration, and compliance, each session was thoughtfully curated to enhance our skills and knowledge. The discussions and brainstorming sessions were intense, focused on refining and implementing our ideas. After establishing goals, objectives, and expectations for the project, participants received training to equip them to execute their responsibilities within the project.

The end of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rule in Bangladesh came after weeks of protests and at the cost of many young lives. Immense sacrifices were made to get Bangladesh to this window of opportunity, and it is important that the voices of young people are not lost in the transition process. Over the past 2 years, Accountability Lab has worked with the Manusher Jonno Foundation on strengthening youth engagement in democracy in Bangladesh through a project that has built diverse networks of youth leaders. Meet three inspiring #Accountapreneurs from Accountability Lab's Incubator: ⭐ At just 18, @Natsiraishe-Maritsa founded the Vulnerable Underaged People's Auditorium in Zimbabwe, using taekwondo to combat early marriage. With over 30 young participants, she's empowering youth through resilience and self-defence. Her work earned her the IOC Women and Sports Award, and she continues to inspire after her recent trip to Cabo Verde. ⭐ Pooja Bista is challenging the Chaupadi menstrual taboo in Nepal with her digital platform. By fostering open discussions online, she's breaking down barriers and advocating for women's inclusion in civic activities, showcasing the power of digital media in driving societal change. ⭐ Damaris Aswa is a winner of the 2023 Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award for IntegrityLink - Tuwajibike! It's a mobile app to report and track corruption in Kenya. Her journey with Accountability Lab's Incubator has transformed a powerful idea into a real-world solution.
