Promoting lifelong resilience in children and youth, and strengthening the caring capacity of the adults in their lives.
About us
Our mission is to promote lifelong resilience in children and youth, and strengthen the caring capacity of the adults who influence their lives. Since 1994, Acknowledge Alliance (formerly the Cleo Eulau Center) has used the power of fostering resilience to help build positive connections between teachers and students to open the doors to learning and well-being. The foundation of Acknowledge Alliance started with the belief, that when a child has a caring adult in their life who holds high expectations and believes in them, they can succeed despite adversities. Acknowledge Alliance serves K-12 schools in the San Francisco Bay Area, integrating resilience into all levels of learning by: mentoring educators, counseling at-risk youth and teaching social emotional learning lessons for the whole classroom. When it comes to strengthening resilience, social emotional learning and caring relationships are essential. Social emotional learning is what allows children and adults to control their behavior, understand how their personal behavior impacts others, and enables them to empathize and collaborate with others. When teachers cultivate their own social emotional skills and practice self-care, they are able to respond to challenging moments with compassion and understanding, rather than shame and punishment. For adolescents who are on verge of completely falling out of the education system, Acknowledge connects them with one of our therapists. Through counseling and support, youth develop the coping skills needed to overcome obstacles and strive towards graduation. More students feel connected to school because of the improved relationships with their teachers, peers and counselor. Our approach transforms the course of young peoples’ lives and empowers them to realize their fullest potential.

Have you been feeling a bit on edge or anxious as election day draws near? According to Lucy McBride, MD, “It’s normal to feel anxious in uncertain times.. adrenaline and cortisol levels naturally surge under stress, and our bodies feel it. A study published in JAMA showed that hospitalizations for heart attack, stroke and heart failure were 17% higher in the five days after the 2020 election than in a five-day period two weeks prior.” Check out Dr. McBride’s suggestions for managing election anxiety that we’ve been sharing with our staff and educators we support at school sites: https://lnkd.in/guBS7Nhp

Happy Halloween from the Acknowledge Alliance family! Whether at the schools where we support clients or out in our community, we wish everyone a fun filled day of tricks, treats and spooktacular celebrations! For an extra “gourd” time, our Board and staff shared a few of their fondest Halloween memories. What are some of your favorite Halloween moments? Let us know in the comments! “We had just bought a home in a new area of town, but couldn't move in for a few months. We went to the new neighborhood on Halloween so we could easily knock on doors and introduce ourselves. The kids loved it because the neighborhood had awesome decorations and lots of treats, which let us know we needed to step up our game the following year.” - Nancy Sproull, Board Member “I have been trying to impress my 3.5 year old daughter with my pumpkin carving abilities since she was born. I carved Elmo her first Halloween, Skye from Paw Patrol her second, and Olaf from Frozen this year.” - Linda Nguyen, Marketing & Events Manager

“As an agency that supports students and teachers, the majority of whom are from diverse races and cultures, are from economically disenfranchised backgrounds, and have experienced various challenges, we strive to reflect those we serve...By being comfortable with feeling uncomfortable, we allow ourselves to be open to difficult conversations around racism, prejudice, violence, and stigma within the school and mental health systems. I am proud of Acknowledge Alliance and AFPSV’s work to disrupt industry culture to allow equitable growth for diverse individuals.” In our October newsletter, Development Director Ryan Magcuyao reflects on his year leading the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Fellowship Program of Association of Fundraising Professionals Silicon Valley Chapter and helping to embed DEIJ in Acknowledge Alliance’s work. Happy 125th birthday to Sunnyvale School District! We are proud to partner with SSD to support the resilience and well-being of their educators, students and entire school communities. As David Vossbrank, former City of Sunnyvale Community Relations Officer, said at last week’s celebration, “partnerships make all of us better.” We look forward to supporting SSD for the next 125 years to fulfill the promise that “every student is known by name, strength, and need, ready to excel in high school and beyond, and to lead a life of joy and purpose.”

'Anamatangi Polynesian Voices and Youth Community Service (YCS) in collaboration with the League of Women Voters are harnessing the energy and passion of our youth to boost voter participation in the upcoming November 2024 election with The People’s Poll. The mission of this non-partisan voter engagement initiative is to break down barriers and make voting more accessible for everyone in our community. Together, we can ensure that every voice is heard and every vote is counted! The People’s Poll is looking for volunteers ages 14+ to help drive voter registration and turnout in East Palo Alto, which has had a historically low voter turnout, especially among the Pacific Islander and Latinx communities.
