The principles of integration and inclusion enumerated in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are at the heart of everything we do at ACL. They’re embedded in our culture and reflected in our staff, which includes many people with disabilities. Their experiences inform their work and help ensure programs meet the needs of the people they serve. As part of our celebration of the #ADA anniversary, Ed Ahern of ACL’s Office of Independent Living Programs, shares his story.

Advancing independence, integration, and inclusion throughout life
About us
ACL was created around the fundamental principle that all people, regardless of age or disability, should be able to live independently and fully participate in their communities. By advocating across the federal government for older adults, people with disabilities, and families and caregivers; funding services and supports provided by primarily by networks of community-based organizations; and investing in training, education, research and innovation, ACL helps make this principle a reality for millions of Americans. ________ The federal government has a variety of Special Hiring Authorities to make it easier for veterans to access federal employment.
