Across meets EC representatives in Brussels Representatives of all Across universities met from 17 to 19 January 2024 in Brussels to define the next steps of the Across Alliance. The vice-rectors of the University of Craiova, the University of Banja Luca and the Chemnitz University of Technology used the opportunity to discuss the Across strategy with several representatives of DG Regio, DG NEAR and DG EAC from the European Commission. Learning, exchanging, creating perspectives – Across Seasonal Schools 2023 🌍🚆📚 Over 100 young people from nine European countries met in Chemnitz this year to take part in one of four Across Seasonal Schools. Thanks to funding from the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), 105 students from all Across partner institutions as well as 34 international speakers benefited from the international research exchange - a record number. The aim of the Across Seasonal Schools is to promote academic exchange for students and researchers from European border regions, to bring researchers from different disciplines together. This is intended to enable new perspectives and potential in research, but also in European cooperation at higher education level. On average, research enthusiasts from five Across partner institutions were involved in each Seasonal School. A colorful mix of representatives from engineering, humanities, human sciences, and social sciences enriched the academic exchange. In addition to the lectures and group units, other activities such as museum visits, city tours, excursions, but also cinema visits and shared dinners offered stimulating variety and opportunities to get to know the region and each other in greater depth. The guests received not only logistically support from the Across Team Chemnitz, but also from the students and employees of Technische Universität Chemnitz and the International Office, who helped on site. Across Summer School n°4 - Renewable borders: The energy landscape in the European Borderlands During last weeks four day workshop, professors and students from various universities within the Across Alliance Partners network engaged in discussions, learning, proposing, and questioning the state of the art in renewable energy within border conditions at Technische Universität Chemnitz. They considered its impact on the landscape, environment, identity, heritage, political implications, as well as opportunities in design, art, photography, and industrial and technological aspects. The workshop aimed to foster an ecosystemic perspective on renewable energy installations, serving as a basis to speculate on future scenarios related to two specific border conditions.
