Thomas Pursel's continued dedication to the American Cancer Society is a testament to the power of compassion and leadership! His long-term support has touched many lives, and we are truly honored to have him and Merrill Lynch standing alongside us in the fight. Here's to $1 million! 👀👏
I am incredibly grateful for ACS Michigan Area Board member, Thomas Pursel's , leadership and dedication. He launched the Merrill Wears Pink campaign in 2018, and since then, employees have raised $680,000! The goal for the 2024 campaign is to reach a cumulative of $1 million in funds raised. The Merrill Wears Pink campaign encourages Merrill and Bank of America team members to wear pink clothing items and lapel pins to the office throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to commit to raising funds to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to fight breast cancer. BRAVO, Merrill and BoA team members, on your impressive impact! Have fun in this last week of October! American Cancer Society - Michigan. Leeann Plischke. We’re excited to highlight Robert Giroux (Bob), a fantastic ambassador for our Men Wear Pink of Oakland County campaign! 👏 Men Wear Pink is about more than just wearing pink. It’s a distinguished group of community leaders uniting behind our mission to save more lives from breast cancer through fundraising and awareness. Bob embodies this mission. He says, “I’m a Men Wear Pink Ambassador because I want to protect the futures of my daughters, my wife, my colleagues, and my clients—people I care about deeply. I’ve watched cancer take family members and friends, and I want to help prevent the same type of outcome for the people I love who may be afflicted with cancer in the future. This money we raise today could be the difference that helps them one day in the future, giving them the chance to live long, happy lives, free from the ravages of cancer. I've seen firsthand what cancer can do, and that’s why I choose to act now, to protect all of our futures.” Thank you, Bob, for being a beacon of hope and making an impact! 🎗️ Want to support Bob and his fellow ambassadors? Our breast radiation oncologist Dr. Eleanor Walker recently spoke with Randi Myles about a new study that aims to uncover why Black women in the United States have higher incidences of cancer and other health conditions. "The [VOICES of Black Women] study is open to cancer-free Black women ages 25 to 55 who live in geographic areas, like Michigan, where we see 90% of Black women living and working," explained Dr. Walker. "The American Cancer Society did the population study that first showed the connection between cigarette smoking and lung cancer or the connection between obesity and the risk of early death. This study is brand new and something we're trying to do for Black women to understand how cancer develops in our population and what may be some of the risk factors." Dr. Walker shared they expect to start seeing what behavioral, environmental or lived experiences may or may not influence cancer risk within 5 years of the study. The goal is to have the study lead to new treatments and strategies for preventing and treating cancer in Black women. Last Sunday, AIPMA’s Darron Markwood hosted the 5th Annual “Pink Out the ‘Punk” fundraiser at Steampunk Tap Room in downtown Utica, Michigan. Here is a photo from the event that raised about $1,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society - Michigan and supported the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk efforts of Lisa Timm, an 8-year breast cancer survivor. It’s an honor to spotlight Matthew Bingham, one of our incredible Men Wear Pink of Mid-Michigan ambassadors! 🙌 Men Wear Pink is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support services. Through their efforts, ambassadors like Matt help to inspire action and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. In Matt's words: “I’m a Men Wear Pink Ambassador for anyone and everyone who has been impacted by cancer. When I first became an Ambassador a few years ago, I didn't have a personal reason to be part of Men Wear Pink. I just saw an opportunity to use my platform and my radio station to help save lives from breast cancer. Since becoming an Ambassador, though, I have seen firsthand the impact our Men Wear Pink campaigns can make. I have met so many survivors who are appreciative of all that we've been able to do. Having the opportunity to meet them and hear their stories fuels me to have an even bigger impact.” Thank you, Matt, for your commitment and leadership to this important cause! Your passion and dedication are truly inspiring. 🔎 To learn more about Men Wear Pink of Mid-Michigan, click here: https://lnkd.in/gVGRdEfZ

Today showed me what a privilege it is to work for the American Cancer Society - Michigan by heading to one of our Hope Lodges while in Atlanta and serve the patients and their caregivers dinner. We also got watch multiple people graduate from their cancer program and Ring the Bell! Hope Lodges are all across the country helping families stay close to their doctors and treatments, and it is completely free for them. I cried but also laughed too. The stories shared, the memories we made being here will forever impact my life. It is because of our communities, our partners, our sponsors, and most importantly our volunteers that we can continue with our vision of Ending Cancer for everyone, as we know it. #HopeLodge #cancerresearch
