Our Act4Food Core Group Member, Rehman Hassan, had the incredible opportunity to speak at Columbia University’s inaugural Bollinger Convening and World Leaders Forum. This landmark event focused on advancing food systems for the benefit of all humanity. Rehman Hassan delivered a powerful opening session, discussing the needs of young people, the impact of the @whatyoungpeoplewant_ campaign they co-led, and how youth are transforming the food systems landscape. His address followed speeches from world leaders such as the President of Malawi and the Prime Minister of Haiti. The session also brought together senior development partners, including the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We are proud to see young voices shaping the future of global food systems!

How to Get Children Interested in Sustainable Agriculture Inspiring the next generation to care about sustainable agriculture is easier than you think! Here are practical ways to get children involved and excited: 🌱 Start a Small Garden Whether it’s a backyard plot or pots on the windowsill, let children plant and care for veggies or herbs. It's a hands-on way to teach them how food grows and the importance of sustainability. 🚜 Visit a Local Farm Take them to a farm that uses sustainable practices. Seeing how food is grown and animals are raised responsibly builds a real connection with the environment. ♻️ Compost at Home Show kids how food scraps can turn into nutrient-rich soil by starting a small compost bin. It’s a great way to teach them about reducing waste and improving soil health! 🔧 DIY Projects Get creative! Have kids build a bird feeder, plan their own garden plot, or make a mini greenhouse from recycled materials. These fun projects foster a mindset of sustainability and innovation. 🍽️ Farm-to-Table Cooking Involve them in cooking meals using fresh ingredients from local farms. They'll not only appreciate the taste but also understand the value of supporting sustainable agriculture. What other ways do you think farming can be made engagaing for children?

NATIONS CAN’T GROW, IF THEIR CHILDREN CAN’T. While various socio-economic challenges compete for funding, projections from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in the Goalkeepers report on child food poverty should inform and guide country-level governments, DFIs, & Philanthropic Stiftungen/foundations were to fiscally direct aid and funding to deliver the highest benefit. The world’s worst child health crisis is MALNUTRITION.
