OUR MISSION: Enable southern West Virginia to become a physically active community by embracing and celebrating an active lifestyle. In partnership with industries, families, schools, government administrators, businesses and their employees as well as healthcare professionals, Active SWV will advocate for southern West Virginians who deserve an attractive and vibrant place to live where safe opportunities to walk, run, dance, bike, and work out abound. Active SWV will facilitate and promote new and existing sporting events, as well as establish alternative-sports activities in order to increase sports tourism in our region. A happy and healthy community will attract new businesses and jobs. Active SWV’s overall goal is to improve the health of all southern West Virginians by providing opportunities for active lifestyles. This goal will help diversify our region’s economic development by attracting businesses that are looking for a community where living a healthy, active lifestyle is a priority.

Meet our October Participants of the Month, Tamara and Robert Evans! Tamara and Robert are lifelong residents of Beckley, West Virginia. They routinely attend programs together, including Active SWV’s Beckley Full Moon Walk/Bike on the McManus Trail. They have made numerous new friends through attending programs. Tamara and Robert are motivated to stay active by their eight grandchildren – the couple hope to watch them grow up for many years to come. Businesses are invited to participate in the free Workplace Wellness program that includes a training class and grant funding to support a wellness action plan. Capacity Building grants from Active SWV and the WV Division of Health Promotion and Chronic Disease (HPCD) are awarded to worksites that have at least one Work@Health trained employee. These $1500 grants are intended to provide funds to assist worksites with implementing Policy, System, and Environmental changes as a part of their workplace wellness program.
