Queue the snazzy music - RiskCellar Episode 30 is here! "Producer Playbook" with Micah Salas We had a great time on this episode with Micah. Micah has been a great center of influence for young #insurance #producers today. There are some concerning trends with insurance producers (sales people) in the insurance space that I've noticed on social platforms. One of which is the gamification of a make believe sales culture; by virtue of LinkedIn-splaining the sales process. #Sales is not a numbers game. It's not... I don't care what you say. Sales is not something a monkey can do. Sales is not for #meatheads. Sales is not a #bro-culture. Therefore it doesn't deserve to be showcased as such. Many insurance personnel are on the platform describing their sales calls and how their prospects respond. Dumbing it down to a level where our brand is dissipating. Micah does the opposite. He's thoughtful. He's empathetic and he knows that an insurance advisor is on the top shelf of company advisors that a business owner should be speaking with FIRST. We appreciate the work he's doing for Christensen Group Insurance and for the insurance profession. We also chatted about - * Geico bailing on the Tesla #Cybertruck * Uber Eats arbitration with a driver * National Football League (NFL) concussion declines Thanks so much for tuning it. thanks to Ascend for our partnership thanks to Micme for edits thanks to my bald and brilliant cohost Nick Hartmann :) link in comments below.

I recently shared my thoughts on the Marsh acquisition of McGriff, and the post gained more traction than I ever expected! It’s clear this is a topic everyone in the insurance space is buzzing about. Why? Because the consolidation of insurance brokerages is reshaping the entire landscape. Shareholders of these mega-firms are reaping the rewards, but what about the rest of us? What does this mean for employees? For clients? For the future of entrepreneurship and legacy building? 🔹 The Big Question: Who benefits when competition shrinks? 🔹 The Real Impact: Does the insurance brokerage space need to be in Lina Khan’s crosshairs? 🔹 The Bigger Picture: Are we witnessing the decline of entrepreneurial legacy in our industry? If you’re curious about how these changes are affecting the market—and what it means for the smaller brokers trying to stand out—you’ll want to dive into my latest newsletter! 📩 I break down: ✅ The silver lining for smaller firms ✅ How mega-broker consolidation is creating new opportunities ✅ Why specialist brokers may be the real winners in this changing environment 💡 Click Follow and subscribe to get the full breakdown. 🚨 Episode 29 Recap: "Marshian Merge"🚨 🎙️ This week, Brandon Schuh and Nick Hartmann brought their A-game (and a touch of humor) to episode 29 of the RiskCellar Podcast! Here’s the highlight reel: 🔥 Nick’s Mood: Let’s just say Nick came in hot this episode – a little salty, a little fired up, but full of great insights. 🎉 10-Year Milestone: Nick celebrated his 10-year wedding anniversary (Congrats, Nick!). Even with allergies kicking in for his wife, they made it through Utah's breathtaking landscapes! 🍷 Wine Review: The duo explored a rich Argentinian red blend. Nick's verdict? “No toast taste here,” but it’s definitely worth a try! 🦶 Zachary Freeman’s Perfect Husband Status: Once again, the team poked fun at their friend Zach, who sets the bar high with his thoughtful caretaking. Take notes, husbands! 🚗 Insurance Industry Takeover: The big buzz? Marsh’s acquisition of McGriff. What does this $7.75 billion deal mean for the market? Brandon breaks it down and calls out the insane cash valuation. 🚘 Personal Auto Insurance… Obsolete?: A recent article predicted personal auto insurance could be gone in 20 years due to autonomous vehicles. Nick and Brandon aren’t buying it. Expect a redefined product, not an extinction. 🎡 WSIA (Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association) Conference: Brandon attended WSIA in San Diego, describing it as the insurance industry’s wildest party. Imagine Vegas club vibes but with insurance nerds in flashy suits. 🤯 The Jelly Bean Metaphor: Wrapping it up with a Harry Potter twist – life (and the insurance industry) is like a box of Bertie Bott’s Jelly Beans. You’ll get some good ones (like cherries) and some bad ones (like earwax), but you never know what’s next! From major insurance mergers to wine tasting and navigating the complexities of autonomous vehicle coverage, this episode had it all. Tune in, share your thoughts, and get ready for the big episode 30! 💥 We're going to have our own Celebrity on the show next week, Micah Salas for the #dirtythirty Thanks to Andrew Wynn Ascend for their partnership and Micme for the edits. We're losing track of which episode number we're at - I believe it's #28. Take a listen to RiskCellar's latest; Nick Hartmann and I chatted with Mike Peregudov, one of the cofounders of Whizz. Mike and Whizz emerged in one of the hardest fundraising times, as immigrants, in #NewYorkCity. Not an easy feat! We asked Mike about how he did it, what it took, and where he sees the differentiation between Whizz and other #Micromobility companies. The Whizz story is a classic, inspiring, American Dream style one that is definitely not easily replicable. Nick and I also went through some of the headlines - including: * Ted Cruz trying to block the bipartisan #lithiumIon #Battery bill mandating that the #CPSC oversee the new battery standard. * New York Taxi and Limo companies are in Trouble due to one of the largest insurers of these vehicles (American Transit Insurance Co) going insolvent. Uber, Lyft and other rideshare companies rely on #ATIC at a rate of about 60%. Due to a lack of transparency with insureds and the marketplace, they no longer have enough money to cover reserves. *Forever chemicals found in latex condoms. *Jury Verdicts and #socialinflation is roaring with a bigger and bigger number of verdicts piercing $100M. We had fund with this espisode. Thanks for listening. And thanks to our partner Ascend and our editors Micme. links in comments below.

🚨 Looming Insurance Crisis Threatens NYC #Taxi and #Rideshare Industry 🚨 Eli Tan at the The New York Times wrote a great article on the American Transit Insurance Co scandal. As an insurance producer and mobility specialist in the shared mobility space, this latest development is alarming. American Transit, which insures over 60% of New York City's for-hire vehicles, is facing financial collapse. This situation threatens to pull thousands of taxis, Ubers, and Lyfts off the road, creating a potential mobility crisis in NYC. 🚖 🚗 Key Takeaways: Widespread Impact: With American Transit covering about 74,000 vehicles, their insolvency could immediately disrupt services, leaving many drivers and passengers stranded. Financial Fallout: The company reports a staggering $700 million in losses due to questionable practices and potential mismanagement. This raises concerns about how existing claims will be paid and the impact on future coverage. In effect, they have no ability to pay claims and have been using income from policies to repay claims... .kind of like a ponzi scheme. Industry Ripple Effect: This will continue to place pressure on #NEWYORK and the #NYC #TLC and the regulations that have made insurance purchasing super challenging - for instance - requiring admitted insurance for mobility operators - that takes a pool of about ten carriers and narrows it down to about three. And those three still don't like it... and I don't blame them. Need for Reform: This crisis highlights the urgency for regulatory reform and better oversight in the for-hire vehicle insurance space. There have been major concerns about #ATIC for years dating back to their loss of their #AMBEST rating and actuary reports that critiqued their reserving. This situation is a stark reminder of the challenges we face in the mobility and insurance sectors. As an industry, we need to focus on creating sustainable solutions to protect both drivers and passengers. We also need to work closer with regulators. There needs to be more awareness and synergies where the market capabilities align with the regulatory requirements. As of now, in New York, they don't. Link to article in comments - RiskCellar

🚨 Ever wonder what REAL risks are hiding in plain sight? 🚨 As the host of RiskCellar along with Nick Hartmann we are always diving deep into those uncomfortable conversations about what can go wrong — and this latest episode was no exception. We kicked things off by dissecting Peter Thiel's polarizing views on AI. Thiel, ever the disruptor, believes AI is both the future and a potential danger. While it's easy to get caught up in the buzz of technological progress, it really made me think: are we so focused on AI's possibilities that we're ignoring the serious risks hiding just beneath the surface? ⚡ Next up, we tackled a local story that hit hard: a bleacher collapse at a county fair in Texas that sent 12 people to the hospital. Here’s the kicker — the construction wasn’t properly engineered, and now they’re scrambling to see if insurance will even cover it. This isn’t just about shoddy workmanship; it’s about how often we underestimate the risks right in front of us. As someone who deals with risk management daily, this is a huge reminder that shortcuts in safety are never worth the gamble. It begs the question: how many other parts of our lives are built on assumptions, just waiting to crumble? And if that wasn’t enough, we dug into the shocking story of a $70 million superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily, killing a tech billionaire and others on board. It’s not just the loss of life that hit hard; it's the legal and financial chaos that followed. We're talking about millions in insurance claims and liability. What fascinated me was how even someone at the top of the financial food chain isn’t immune to the unpredictability of life. It’s a reminder that no matter how much you plan, there are risks you simply can’t control. Of course, we couldn't have a conversation about risk without bringing AI back into the mix. We discussed how AI is reshaping not just industries but everyday life, from how we build to how we search for information. The potential is huge, but so are the risks. Are we ready for the wave of change that's already crashing down on us? More importantly, are we equipped to handle the unintended consequences of this brave new world? 🎙️Here’s the big takeaway: Whether it’s tech, infrastructure, or everyday life, risks are lurking everywhere. From AI to bleachers collapsing at small-town fairs, life is unpredictable — and the question I keep asking myself is: Are we really prepared? 👀 Thanks to our partner Ascend and Micme LINK IN COMMENTS #RiskManagement #TechTalk #AI #Leadership #Insurance #RiskCellar #PodcastHostLife #LifeIsRisk
