  • Third team deployed! We are extremely proud of the incredible work the first, first responders — our telecommunicators — do every single day. Their dedication ensures that 911 continues to serve and protect our communities. As a team from across Virginia heads to help those in need, we remember that we are stronger together. Thank you to all of our co-workers who volunteered to deploy to provide relief assistance to the unstoppable #HeroesUndertheHeadset in NC, and to those who are still stationed on-site, backfilling for our deployed team members. You make a difference every day! Special shout out also to Rebecca Conners, CUA 911 Operations Manager and FEMA National Joint TERT Initiative Region III TERT Coordinator, who has been heavily involved in the national TERT response to Hurricane Helene. • We're incredibly proud to announce that CUA911 has once again been recognized for our unwavering commitment to public safety. Last November, we earned our sixth Accreditation from the Commission on Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)—a prestigious honor we've maintained since 2006! This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, who are always striving to set the gold standard in emergency telecommunications. We were honored to be recognized for this achievement earlier this month at the APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) annual conference—an event that brings together the best and brightest in our field from around the world. But that’s not all! Three of our amazing coworkers — Celeste Baldino, RPL, Jae Lohr, and Rebecca Conners — had the privilege of presenting at the APCO conference. Their session on our agency’s GOLDEN values focused on how to refresh and recommit to an agency’s strategic plan, mission, and vision—key elements for improving retention, engagement, and morale. And, our Executive Director Sonny Saxton, EMT-P, ENP was selected to participate in a round table on best practices in retention and performance improvement. Both presentations were a hit, sparking new connections and conversations with other agencies facing similar challenges. At CUA911, we're dedicated to excellence, innovation, and collaboration. We're excited to continue leading the way in public safety, both locally and nationally. Here's to many more milestones ahead! #CUA911 #PublicSafety #CALEA #APCO #ExcellenceInService

  • Please join us in congratulating the latest graduates of the CUA911 call-taking academy! After seventeen arduous weeks of study and multiple certification exams, our newest seven Public Safety Communications Officers have been moved on to the next phase of their training. Each of them are now assigned to one of our platoons, paired with a training officer, and are #AnsweringTheCall when our community needs help. A special thank you to everyone who attended the graduation ceremony to commemorate the occasion — friends and families of the graduates, the ECC supervisor and leadership teams, Chief Michael Thomas from Charlottesville Fire, and Chief Michael Kochis from Charlottesville Police. We appreciate you!
