Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) may no longer be used in food packaging materials in the U.S. PFAS compounds are man made chemicals manufactured for use in a variety of industries including textiles, construction, fire-fighting, and numerous household products and consumer goods, including (upto now) food packaging materials. They have been applied to cookware to provide a non-stick function and on paper products to prevent the absorption of fats and oils. They are present in drinking water, fish, and can contaminate fresh produce like fruits and vegetables through contaminated soil and water. These compounds are known to accumulate in the human body and lead to serious illness. Today, FDA took action on PFAS, banning its sale in U.S. markets. This will include testing of products using a multipronged approach to preventing the entry of new products into the market and removing #pfas containing products from the market.

Why are children experiencing puberty earlier and earlier than they used to? A study of nearly 1000 girls in Copenhagen found that the average age of breast development was 7 or 8 and is dropping. Girls are also getting their periods earlier (around 13 years of age). In a previous study (2009) revealed the earliest breast development occurs alongside the highest urine levels of phthalates. Phthalates are substances used to make plastics more durable and are found in a wide range of plastic from vinyl flooring to food packaging. https://lnkd.in/eG8cRHyy
