Creators of the ADHD Thrive Method 4 Kids AKA Fighting ADHD Symptoms With Food & Natural Solutions

About us

ADHD Thrive Institute was founded by Dana Kay, a Board Certified Holistic Health and Nutrition Practitioner. After encountering challenges with her own son who was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 4, Dana knew there had to be a different way to support children with ADHD without the need for prescribed medication. She undertook her own journey of investigation, trial and error and formal education to make dietary and nutritional changes with her own son. Throughout this journey she know she just had to share her wisdom, knowledge and skills with other families experiencing the same struggles as it was just valuable to keep to herself. Our Road to Thrive's goal is to help families who have children with ADHD, through nutrition and functional lab work to help identify HIDDEN stressors and dysfunctions and implementing a holistic and all-natural family approach to health and wellness. From this the ADHD Thrive Method 4 Kids was born. Step by step program that takes families by the hand, to gain more control of the challenges, help restore calm back into the household, and reduce symptoms of children with ADHD. Most important help families live the kind of lifestyle they long for and deserve.

One of the most common questions we get asked about naturally reducing ADHD symptoms  is… “Will this work for teenagers or young adults too?” Trying to reduce ADHD symptoms in teens or young adults does have its unique challenges for sure, but we wanted to reassure you that YES, it is possible! We sat down with a gastroenterologist not long ago to talk about her ADULT SON’S experience in our program. He was on ADHD medications for 19 YEARS - yes, you read that right, 19 years - when they realized they needed to change course and try something else. And now, he’s doing SO MUCH BETTER! Was it easy? Nope. But was it worth the effort she put in? We’ll let her tell you for herself. Watch Donna’s story HERE  - https://lnkd.in/g4R3BwaP

Labor day is all about honoring hard work, so today I want to thank the people on the ADHD Thrive Institute team. They work incredibly hard to help families of kids with ADHD, and we could not help nearly as many families as we do without them! Happy Labor Day!

How to Explain ADHD to Kids ✅✅✅ I remember the first time my son asked me what it meant to have ADHD. I was totally caught off guard. Since then, I’ve learned that lots of parents are unsure how to best explain it to their kids. I’ve got you covered here. My absolute FAVORITE way to explain ADHD to kids is by using the analogy of Dr. Hallowell. He says, “You've got a Ferrari engine for a brain, but you've got bicycle brakes.” 🏎️ 🚲 But here are a few other tips & tricks to help: 1. Use Simple Analogies: Apart from the Ferrari example, you can use other simple analogies that might resonate more directly with your child…like comparing the brain to… 💡 A remote control that has too many buttons pressed at once 💡 A sports team, where neurons are players who sometimes miss their passes (messages) 💡 A superhero team where each hero has a different strength and challenge 2. Share about BOTH Strengths and Challenges: You might say, "Just like Spider-Man has his web-slinging skills and struggles with keeping his identity secret, you have fantastic creativity and sometimes find it tricky to focus on things that don’t interest you." 3. Use Interactive Activities: Try activities that mimic ADHD challenges. For instance, have a conversation while a TV is on, then discuss how the distraction made the conversation harder. This can help children understand why they might feel overwhelmed or distracted in certain environments. 4. Highlight Successful People Who Have ADHD: Athletes, scientists, artists, & entrepreneurs like Michael Phelps, Albert Einstein, Simone Biles, and Emma Watson have all been noted for having traits associated with ADHD. They show that with the right strategies, anyone can achieve great success. Remember, the goal is to help them understand themselves better and make them feel empowered & capable, not different or disadvantaged. Did you read this whole caption? Parents often ask me, “What are the top diet changes I need to make for my child with ADHD?” Here are the BEST things you can do for your child: ✔️ Eliminate gluten, dairy, and soy. That’s because these foods are the top 3 inflammatory foods that we eat! ✔️ Eat whole, nutritious fresh fruits and veggies. Don’t replace packaged goods with packaged goods, but instead start getting your kids to eat more whole foods. ✔️ Eat plenty of healthy fats (like avocados, healthy oils, etc.) ✔️ Choose organic/non-GMO foods when possible. ✔️ Use natural honey, maple syrup (the real stuff, not the high fructose corn syrup stuff!) and dates instead of refined sugar. ✔️ Eat grass-fed/wild-caught animal protein (like beef, poultry, seafood, and eggs). Now there are other natural strategies you want to put into place to support a child with ADHD - like supporting sleep, adjusting parenting methods, etc. but the diet is the foundation so start here! AND… If you’d like to learn more about natural strategies to support kids with ADHD, check out my free ADHD masterclass. https://bit.ly/3OBOxoL
