Recent college grads are having a much harder time finding a job with their unemployment rate surpassing that of the overall labor market. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York has tracked a noticeable gap between the unemployment rates of recent grads and the overall labor market since the summer of 2002. Nick Bunker, Economic Research Director for North America for job site Indeed's Hiring Lab, says that the cool-off is due to a large pullback in sectors who traditionally hired recent grads. "Tech, consulting, and marketing job postings are all down dramatically from two years ago," says Bunker. Businesses say they will be hiring 5.8% less recent grads this year than before. Due to this trend, it becomes even more important yet more difficult for recent grads to find ways to stand out from the rest.
