About us
AdoptAClassroom.org is a national nonprofit that empowers teachers and high-needs schools with the funding they need to equip their classrooms and students for success. Over the past 25 years, as we’ve grown in size; staff, reach, and funds raised for classrooms, the need to support teachers and students has continued to grow as well. According to our 2023 survey, teachers out-of-pocket spending has reached an all-time high, with teachers spending an average of $860 a year on supplies to equip their classrooms and students. Every student deserves the opportunity for a quality education, regardless of their economic circumstances. Education is a path out of generational poverty and foundational for healthy and strong communities.Teachers work hard to ensure each of their students have the tools they need to thrive in school, but they need our help. AdoptAClassroom.org makes it easy for individuals and corporate sponsors to donate to classrooms in need in any community throughout the U.S. To date, AdoptAClassroom.org has raised more than $65 million dollars, supported more than a quarter of a million classrooms, and equipped more than 6.4 million students with the supplies they need to succeed in school.. Our 501(c)(3) organization holds the highest 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and the highest transparency rating offered by Candid/GuideStar. Teachers work more and are paid less than comparable working adults. They’re making $18,000 less in base pay and spending $860 out-of-pocket on school supplies to make sure students have access to essential learning supplies. It’s not okay. Our work helps students get what they need and teachers to spend their salary on their own goals and families - the same as respect most other educated professionals receive. Executive Director Ann Ruhr Pifer and SVP of Programs, Operations, and Technology Ryan Jordan recently accepted a GO! Program grant from the ECMC Foundation. This grant will help AdoptAClassroom.org support teachers of color in the Minneapolis-St.Paul area, where both organizations are based. Special shout-out to our board chair and ECMC employee Rahoul Ghose, also pictured, who connected AdoptAClassroom.org with this opportunity!

Brenda, a gym teacher, has raised more than $20,000 through AdoptAClassroom.org. After one of her students passed away from cancer, his classmates asked if they could build a Ninja Warrior-inspired obstacle course in his memory. Brenda took on the challenge, collaborating with local businesses and community members to get the donations she needed to create a one-of-a-kind gym experience. During our team onsite in July, the AdoptAClassroom.org team got to visit (and, for the brave, venture out on) the obstacle course. It was amazing to see how our work helped create this incredible feature of Brenda’s school community.
