It is with a heavy heart that I let you know that one half of the fabulous duo that discovered the usage of botulinum toxin for wrinkles has passed away. Dr. Alastair Carruthers was a giant in dermatology and together with his wife, Jean Carruthers, MD (a brilliant ophthalmologist who was the one to notice that her blephorospasm patients’ foreheads were smoother after treatment), Alastair realized the import and possibilities of this observation and Botox cosmetic was born. He was a gentleman and scientist and is survived by Jean and his 3 sons. They are an inspiration to me and I am grateful to say that they are/were my friends.
