Advanced Energy announced today that Bob Goodson will retire as its president and executive director on October 1, 2024, roles he has held since 2018. Brian Coble has been appointed his successor. Goodson’s career has spanned more than 50 years and has seen him go from positions in engineering to business development, strategic planning and management. He began his journey in 1970 in nuclear power plant design and construction with Bechtel Power Corporation before transitioning to the electric utility industry, with stops at Entergy Corporation, Tennessee Valley Authority and North Carolina's Electric Cooperatives. When he joined Advanced Energy, Goodson sought to further the legacy of former president Dr. Bob Koger but also take the company in a new direction as it prepared for the future. With that in mind, he developed key personnel and engaged more directly with members of the board of directors to benefit from their expertise. “It was an honor to be a part of Advanced Energy and help it reestablish itself for the next 40 years,” he said. “You can never predict what outside challenges will bring, but we stayed flexible and got things done, which was a testament to the skills of our staff and management team. What North Carolina as a whole has been able to accomplish puts the state in excellent position to compete for business and industry.” For the previous 11 years, Coble has held executive positions with Advanced Energy and currently serves as chief operating officer. “It has been a true honor working closely with Bob over the years,” he said. “I am deeply grateful for his unwavering dedication to Advanced Energy and for his vision and leadership, which have positioned us for continued success. His commitment to ensuring a bright future for the company will leave a lasting legacy.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/edNNSatt

With new products coming out and more incentives to help us benefit from energy-efficient technologies, some people are unfortunately trying to take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners. For Carolina Country Magazine, we wrote about devices and services that may be too good to be true or that require careful consideration. https://lnkd.in/eqU8BXpQ

Heat pumps — already in more than 40% of housing units in North Carolina — are continuing to grow in popularity, but one specific type has been of particular interest among energy-conscious consumers: the cold-climate heat pump. Thanks to improvements in technology and software, cold-climate heat pumps don't need to rely on supplemental strip heat and can maintain their high efficiency through temperatures that more than cover typical winter conditions in our state. Daniel Real and Jonathan Coulter wrote about this technology and its far-reaching benefits. https://lnkd.in/eXcH-pDP

I say it every year - even though National Drive Electric Week is one of our busiest times of year, it's also one of my favorites. I think this will be my 7th NDEW as part of Advanced Energy and Plug-in NC. Some (like Blue Ridge EV Club) are celebrating their 10th annual event! There are plenty of events that we're excited to support and attend, but I'd like to bring attention to one that we're supporting with Richard Sapienza at Wake Technical Community College Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence and the NC Clean Energy Technology Center. If you haven't seen the facility before, you should. We often talk about the importance and need of workforce development in the EV and EVSE industry. It's great to see many NC community colleges supporting this pathway. Here's a great spotlight on the program with Wake Tech: https://lnkd.in/epiuMNV4 We'd love to see you on campus for the event. Here are the deets: Saturday, September 28 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence Scott Northern Wake Campus 6851 Perry Creek Rd, Raleigh Register here: https://lnkd.in/easkxEPU

Do you know how efficient your facility is? There are several practical strategies that can help manufacturers overcome energy cost challenges, including conducting an energy audit, investing in energy-efficient equipment, creating a proactive maintenance program and fostering a culture of continual improvement. Next month, Charles Martin will be featured on a webinar hosted by Plant Engineering to discuss these and other ways to enhance your manufacturing efficiency and sustainability. https://lnkd.in/eWnuRyUg
