    𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆 "𝗬𝗘𝗦" 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱. Sammy the Salesman, wants to make his customers happy. When they ask for a feature, he immediately contacts the product manager and insists the new feature be added. Sammy is not thinking about and doesn't care about: ✅How this feature impacts the UX generally ✅If there are simple workarounds that could help the customer ✅A feature's fit with the product's targeted segment ✅The number of customers that would use the feature ✅Other priorities in the pipeline ✅Cost / effort of the feature He doesn't think about anything but this one customer and their request -and he wants to say "yes" and keep the customer happy. Sammy gets frustrated with any other answer. A product manager must maintain a strategic perspective and must become skilled at saying "no" or at least "not right now." Figure out why they need it, and place the need within the pipeline to be prioritized alongside everything else. Then, especially if it's big customer, work with the salesperson to help the customer find a workaround. Product managers must also avoid being people-pleasers. Sammy will not be happy and will not understand. So sorry, Sammy! We are running a business here, not a concierge service. #innovation #productmanagement #marketing _____________________ 🐺 𝗛𝗶!     Ever wonder 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝟮𝗕 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀? Wonder no more! With this research on 12 VOC skills, we now have a clear picture. We surveyed over 300 respondents and here's what we found for those with a poor understanding of market needs vs. those with a good understanding: 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟳𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀.
