Niron Magnetics, Inc. is commercializing the world’s first high-performance, low-cost, rare-earth-free permanent magnets with support from ARPA-E's SCALEUP program. Their Clean Earth Magnets, made from abundant iron and nitrogen, significantly reduce environmental impact and dependence on scarce materials, offering a sustainable solution for technologies critical to the U.S. energy transition. ARPA-E Deputy Director for Technology Dr. Daniel Cunningham attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Nion's commercial pilot plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, seeing firsthand how these powerful magnets are being scaled for commercialization. #ARPAESCALEUP support was a major milestone in Niron’s journey, and it could be in yours too. Through ARPA-E's GREENWELLS program, Emvolon is transforming how we harness renewable energy through the Renewables-to-Liquids approach. Their project is repurposing automotive engines as modular chemical reactors to convert renewable energy and greenhouse gas emissions into sustainable liquid fuels that can be stored and transported independent of the grid. By leveraging mature, mass-produced engine technology, their approach provides a cost-effective solution to decarbonize heavy industry while adapting to the fluctuating nature of renewables. So far, they've successfully converted gases from methane into green fuels using their Rapid Compressor Machine, and are now working to adapt it to convert gases from renewable sources. They’re making great strides as they move into the next phases of testing and development. Discover more: https://lnkd.in/e8v63aVQ.
