Thank you for a beautiful time on the water, Surfside Recovery Services and Shore Break Recovery! Much gratitude to Alyssa Fountain and Erick Giunta for making it happen and for sharing the personal story of hope. It means the world to us to guide others through profound experiences outside—this is our why. Can't wait to do it again, soon!
Marketing, Communications & Development at Surfside Recovery Services
Last week, a group of Surfside Recovery Services case managers, support staff, and the clinical team at Shore Break Recovery spent their day off/heatwave in the bay with Tim Walsh of Adventure Recovery . Our Executive Director Erick Giunta even hopped in a kayak for the day!
They spent hours learning about water safety, including how to get back into a flipped kayak, how to self-rescue and rescuing those in distress.
One of our alumni with over 5 years sober often shares about the profound spiritual experience he had in an adventure therapy setting - one designed entirely by Tim. We are grateful to integrate his wisdom into our daily work and eager to create these transformative moments for many more men.
PS. Follow along on instagram @surfsidenj to see more of what we get up to AND why!
As long as we are teachable, we are flexible, adaptable, and we evolve. When we get stuck in absolutes and the notion that we have it all dialed—that we know what’s what—we are in fact creating rigidity and this impacts our capacity and resilience significantly.
The gifts of the experience are profound.
Thank you for sharing, Josh Flaherty, LMSW 🙌💙🌿
Recently, while working with one of our guides and his client, I was struck by the dual impact of mentorship. While it may seem a straight forward hierarchical relationship (mentor / mentee) - it is in fact a beautiful two-way street. I learn from my co-workers and clients everyday. They help be to be better. And of course, our ultimate mentor and teacher - Mother Nature - provides the canvas for this ongoing painting of life. #dowhatyoulove#lovewhatyoudo#getoutsideAdventure Recovery
