As a technical leader with our Canada region, Gord Geoffrey is no stranger to the intricacies of large-scale infrastructure projects. His success in complex civil engineering works has allowed him to lead major infrastructure investments across Calgary, which span roads and highways to light rail transit and water and wastewater treatments plants.    One of his favorite projects has been the North Calgary Water Servicing study, which aimed to develop solutions to reduce the city’s reliance on a single, older water transmission line. In celebration of United Nations World Architecture Day, we’ve published our latest Global Creative Review. The Review showcases some of our best architecture and design projects from the last 12 months. All of this year’s projects are fantastic examples of the design quality and technical excellence our global design studios deliver for our clients. In Toronto, transit architect Gabriel Al Colômbani’s light rail transit design standards have set the benchmark for future light rail projects. Simranjit Kaur’s landscape architecture solution for the Haji Bunder Garden in Mumbai has redefined urban park development through ecological and technical ingenuity and Zhao Jiang’s Chaowai Street project in Beijing incorporates elements of parametric design and climate resilience. Mark McVay’s Wonderful Career Center in California embodies sustainable design tailored to its unique landscape, while ross wimer’s Indian Pavilion in Japan reflects a fusion of cultural heritage and cutting-edge technology. Francis Cooke’s proposal for the Metals In Construction Design Competition in New York reimagines office-to-residential conversions to create vibrant mixed-use communities. The Fort Lauderdale Police Headquarters designed by Danny Aguiar and the Chicago Joint Public Safety Training Center by Kelsie S. in the USA combine functionality with civic presence. The Al Khobar Downtown Master Plan by Carlos Alberto Fleitas, Assoc. AIA revitalizes public spaces in Saudi Arabia, while the Aragua Master Plan envisions a sustainable urban future for Venezuela. We’re redefining sports venues with the Nansha Sports Complex in Guangzhou, expanding tech hubs with Stephen Suen’s Cyberport Expansion in Hong Kong, creating exemplary open public spaces with Trevor Boobyer’s Gold Coast Greenheart in Australia and increasing capacity to serve more patients more effectively in London with Jason Pearson’s Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre. Over years of collaboration, we’ve helped the City of Edmonton build out its light rail system — today one of North America’s busiest. Now this leading network is set to expand still further as we partner with Capital Line Design-Build Ltd. to deliver the City’s Capital Line South Light Rail Transit Extension project. Located in Alberta, Canada, the project includes a 4.5-kilometer light rail extension from Century Park to north of Ellerslie Road, two new stations and a light rail vehicle storage and maintenance facility. In this week’s Deep Dive, we hear from Josh Jones, a program manager from our Transportation business in Canada. Josh has over 20 years of experience in construction and management of large-scale infrastructure projects. He currently leads a team of nearly 20 multi-disciplinary professionals, using his decades of experience to develop and execute complex public-private partnership (P3) projects.    One of the highlights of his career has been serving as project manager for the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton, western Canada’s largest LRT owner’s engineer assignment and Edmonton’s first P3 project. Josh and his team worked not only with city staff, but also with AECOM’s global network of experts, bringing specialized knowledge from around the world, to successfully deliver the project. Today, the Valley Line provides Edmonton’s population of over a million with affordable access to public transit, expanding connectivity across the city while decreasing car dependency and eliminating an estimated 5,340 metric tons of greenhouse gases annually. From a young age, Youvrani Thimmegowda’s father, a chief officer in their local municipal office, often took her to water treatment plants. We're excited to announce that we have been selected by Durham Region (The Regional Municipality of Durham) to provide engineering services for upgrades to the Port Darlington Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), which services approximately 50,000 residents in the Town of Bowmanville in Ontario, Canada.
