With nearly 30 years of experience in the food industry, I’ve developed a deep concern for our workplace culture and the rigorous standards of food safety. While mission statements and employee profiles proudly showcase our dedication to safety, the critical question remains: what concrete steps are we taking to truly promote food safety? How actively engaged are our employees in supporting our Food Safety Program? As leaders, what systems and protocols are we implementing to guarantee that food safety processes are meticulously followed? We need to consider the factors contributing to these outbreaks. Are labor shortages forcing employees to juggle multiple responsibilities, potentially leading to oversights? Is the pressure to avoid overtime resulting in rushed or incomplete equipment maintenance, leaving equipment in conditions that compromise cleanliness and safety? We need to entertain every scenario. Do not take comfort when your P & L is in the black. It is our responsibility as leaders to ensure that these potential gaps are addressed so that food safety is more than just an aspiration—it’s a tangible reality embedded in our daily practices. #FoodSafety #FoodandBeverage #Sanitation #HACCP
