About us
IHS professionals plan, lead, and execute health-related regional security cooperation activities. They also assist in US military support to interagency disaster response, humanitarian assistance, healthcare infrastructure development during wartime and in stability operations. In addition to being technical experts in their AFSC, IHS members are proficient in a second language and have in-depth understanding of military, economic, cultural and health aspects in their assigned countries or region.

The Veterans Reintegration Forum was held in Warsaw, Poland from 23-24 October, 2024 and included subject matter experts from the United States, Poland, and Ukraine. The forum centered on enhancing dialogue to find effective reintegration solutions for the more than 300K newly disabled Ukrainian combat veterans. Opening remarks were provided by senior leaders such as Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, U.S. Embassy Warsaw, Ambassador Piotr Łukasiewicz, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim, Polish Embassy in Ukraine, and Special Representative Sarah Morgenthau, Office of Commercial and Busines Affairs, U.S. Department of State. The 45th World Congress on Military Medicine was held from 22-27 September 2024 in Brisbane, Australia which focused on global health. There were more than 1700 attendees from 73 countries at the World Congress. USAF International Health Specialists presented on numerous topics and participated in strategic meetings held in Brisbane. The International Committee of Military Medicine (ICMM) was started in 1921 by eight founding states, including the US. It has since grown to include 124 nations. ICMM brings together the medical personnel of its member states’ armed forces and share progress regarding the skills and expertise required to practice medicine in a military environment. #StrongerTogether #interoperability #medicalreadiness #IHS

The U.S. continues to expand operational competency in austere Arctic environments. National delegates met at NATO HQ in Brussels, Belgium to discuss Cold Weather Medical Operations from Sept 18-20, 2024. The DoD’s 2024 Arctic Strategy prioritizes three lines of effort: engaging with Allies and partners, exercises in the Arctic and enhancing the Joint Force’s Arctic capabilities. IHS SPRING SPOTLIGHT: Major Lyubomir 'Lubo' Angelov As a Medical Administrator in global health engagement at U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa, Maj Angelov supports and organizes health-related events that align with U.S. European Command objectives, partner nations' health interests, and NATO health-related priorities. Before his current assignment, Maj Angelov gained valuable international experience through deployments to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, and by supporting Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency missions in Ukraine and Moldova as an interpreter. “These experiences not only broadened my perspective but also deepened my commitment to our mission and the global community. Years of real-world deployments and comprehensive medical readiness training have enriched my current role as an IHS,” Maj Angelov said.
