We are excited to welcome Alfred Muli as our first-ever Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager! With over a decade of expertise in Public Health and Monitoring & Evaluation, Alfred has led impactful projects in WASH and Sexual Reproductive Health across Africa. A passionate advocate for women's health and reproductive rights, Alfred has also contributed to key publications on menstrual health. 💬 Alfred’s approach to MEL: "We can always find the sweet spot between impact measurement and respecting the dignity of the communities where data is collected. While it's great to have quantifiable data and metrics, it’s even more important to ensure that the data collection process respects all the people involved. Communities and proximate leaders know what is best for them, so their insights are key to how we assess impact. In my experience, this always fosters genuine trust and strengthens outcomes." We’re thrilled to have Alfred on our team. Read his full bio here: https://lnkd.in/en2a6XHW

“[Localization] must be mainstreamed as a field-wide practice, instead of being dismissed as a hot topic that will fizzle with time … The field's ability to maximize lasting, impactful change depends on it." Hear from co-CEOs of our partner the African Visionary Fund, Atti Worku and Katie Bunten-Wamaru, about The Equity Principles and Metrics Framework for Meaningful Localization and its three key themes: fair funding practices, equitable partnerships, and greater agency of local change-makers to secure systems change.

🌍 Grateful for the opportunity to engage with inspiring leaders at the recent UNGA week Stories of Local Leadership chat, organized by African Visionary Fund Dr. Jacques captured the essence of our work perfectly: “If we get enough (funding), we do enough (impact).” This reinforces the vital connection between resources and meaningful change. Thank you to everyone who shared their journeys—your stories resonate deeply and remind us all of the power of local leadership. Together, we can transform our communities. #Leadership #Impact #AfricanVisionaryFund Drop of Water #CleanWaterforall #Ethiopia

Meet one of our speakers for the 2024 APF Conference- Katie Bunten-Wamaru is a fundraiser and strategist with over 12 years of experience in nonprofit management and 10 years working in East Africa. While in East Africa, Katie witnessed first-hand the inequities within the philanthropic sector as well as the power of community-led development. As co-CEO of the African Visionary Fund, Katie is laser-focused on driving more funding & power to African-led social impact organizations. The African Visionary Fund is unleashing breakthrough impact by driving resources to high-impact African-led organizations. Within the first two years of the Fellowship, Katie brought in $2.4 million in new funding to Fellows. Across her philanthropic experience, she has managed due diligence on grant portfolios of over $10 million and leveraged $21 million in outside funding to grantee partners through extensive donor engagement.

It’s been one week since we hosted our unforgettable UNGA Week event, Stories of Local Leadership, alongside Rippleworks and Food For Education. Building on last year’s Fireside Chat, we heard from remarkable African changemakers who shared powerful stories of innovation, triumph, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. This evening meant so much to us, providing a space to connect on a deeper level and to hear impact stories not just through numbers. For us, this was a dream collaboration. A special thank you to our moderators, Doug Galen and Atti Worku, and to Katie Bunten-Wamaru for her welcoming remarks. Our gratitude also goes to our esteemed panelists: Wawira Njiru (Food 4 Education) Linda Kamau (AkiraChix) Lizzie Kiama (This Ability) Jacques Sebisaho, MD, MPA (Armani Global Works) Katumba James S. (Wezesha Impact) A simple yet profound takeaway from this ongoing conversation is that investing in local organizations, those strongly connected to their communities, and fostering trust-based relationships is key to sustainable, long-term impact. We look forward to sharing more insights from the event, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us! #LocalLeadership #UNGA #Changemakers #GlobalCommunity
