    Project Manager | 1st Gen Latina 🇲🇽 | The Everyday Project Scientist👩🏽💼🔬

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞? 𝐈𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐚: → You spent years mastering your craft. → You built a community that understood your passion. → You believed your future was set in stone. But what happens when that path no longer serves you? When you realize you want something new? There’s grief in letting go of academic pursuits. Grief for the time, energy, and identity you’ve invested into a career that no longer aligns with the person you strive to be. You may feel lost—like a part of you is crumbling with the foundation you’ve built. But here’s the truth: you are more than the titles, the degrees, and the career path you’ve chosen. Grief is part of the process, but so is growth. Moving on from academia doesn’t erase your past—it prepares you for something new in your #AfterAcademiaAdventures. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬: → Innovators who aren’t afraid to pivot. → Professionals who carry their academic rigor into new industries. → Individuals who embrace ambiguity with curiosity. Post-Academic Pivoters, please remember that mourning the end of your academic career doesn't mean you've failed or made a mistake; it means you're brave enough to make space for something new. How will you honor both the grief and the growth as you move forward?

Academics like to explain - a lot. Whether it's in conferences, classrooms in front of undergraduates, or in lengthy books or articles. This doesn't work the same way outside of academia. Being concise matters in industry roles matters. Clients want to know how to solve the problem and what needs to be done next. I've encountered this myself when I feel the need to explain, even when it doesn't warrant it. Maybe it's the academic side of me? While explaining helps clients understand the problem, you should know when it's best to deep-dive into an explanation and when to summarize and provide the next steps. In summary...get to the point. 🎯 #academia #communicationtips #academics #phds #gradschool

People see a couple of special cases and think success happening overnight is normal. The reality is that a majority of people's success comes from years and years of laying down the foundation to be successful. Yet, people expect their 5th TikTok to get them one million followers in a day. The longer you can be patient about your success the sooner it will actually come.

Rant incoming... I've filled out over 150 applications for scientific positions since being laid off three months ago. Is no one hiring, or is it just me? I know many people have been unemployed for far longer and have applied to even more jobs than I have, but it doesn't make this process any less frustrating or discouraging. What’s more concerning is that this seems to be a growing trend. I've spoken with numerous hard-working, highly educated, and talented colleagues over the past few months who find themselves in the same situation. I get that the economy is rough right now, but I want to share a few words of encouragement—even if they sound a little corny. This isn’t the first time I’ve faced this challenge, and each time, just when things seemed darkest, an unexpected opportunity eventually emerged. So, let’s take a moment to be thankful for what we have and remain hopeful for tomorrow. Sincerely, A scientist still searching...

Experienced quantitative researcher | PhD Economics | 10 years of communicating complex ideas to non-technical audiences

Hi Friends, I'm currently on the job market, looking to transition from academia into an industry job, and I'm hoping you can help! I think because of my industry change, as well as my unique skillset I'm getting lost in ATS systems, and I'm really hoping my network can help. I'm looking to apply my expertise in statistical analysis skills to solve problems in jobs like: data analyst, project manager, economist, or any related role. I have a PhD in Economics with a specialization in financial economics. In short, this means that causal inference, forecasting, neural networks, and many other statistical methods are all in my toolbox, and I am familiar with their financial and analytics applications. I've used these methods to publish several articles including in the top journal in my field. My research produced actionable insights from large and complex datasets using R, SQL, Stata, and other coding languages. There are others with these quantitative skills, but I think I stand out in my ability to communicate insights to diverse audiences with differing levels of comfort with math. At Emerson College (a school whose students are known to be a bit math phobic) I averaged a 4.9/5 on student evaluations of my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. I am a national champion public speaker, and love nothing more than discussing complex problems with people from a wide range of backgrounds. I think I am a catch in this job market, but I am finding it hard to get through to a first round interview where my communication skills and ability to apply my academic expertise to industry problems can shine. That's where you come in! If you're a student or colleague of mine please share this post, comment your support, and connect me with anyone you know who might have an open role (let's get the BCE mafia on this). If you're a recruiter or hiring manager I would love to connect! #opentowork #datasciencejobs #economicsjobs

After Your PhD is a free informational resource for academics and a testing ground for my different marketing/business ideas. 🔬 After some thought and considering its value for my followers, I am moving away from the affiliate marketing strategy on the website and instead using a trusted platform like Patreon. YouTube seems the most likely place for that approach with featured guests. Why does this matter? I want to continue keeping After Your PhD and its resources free for visitors. My stipend was tremendously low during my PhD and low stipends are still around. I want to help as many folks I can by sharing the benefits of informational interviews. I also put a lot of work into the upkeep and development of the website and social media accounts. Monetization is a hard subject to discuss, but crowdfunding makes the most sense because After Your PhD is in an educational niche. And frankly, selling products doesn't make a lot of sense on the site either. As always, I like to be transparent about these types of announcements because we are learning and hopefully my transparency helps you learn too. If you want to support my efforts in building something that makes a difference, please visit my new Patreon page below and subscribe ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gUQeQYgR If you have any suggestions for different tiers let me know!
