In an urgent letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, AGBU President Berge Setrakian appeals for the release of all Armenian POWs being held by Azerbaijan and expresses concern about the lack of information concerning their imprisonment since the U.S. urged Baku to let them free back in talks during this past June. Setrakian notes that now is the time for the United States to exercise its leadership to maintain the international world order. He adds that Armenians in the United States and across the globe remain deeply concerned about the fate of their fellow citizens and would appreciate an update on what is being done to ensure the immediate release.  Full Statement: https://lnkd.in/eryB4yxC

Today is World Humanitarian Day, a time to pay tribute to the courageous people helping innocent refugees worldwide affected by conflict. Less than a year ago, over 120,000 people were forcibly driven from Artsakh, and to this day, they are still in need of serious attention. Please consider donating to the AGBU Global Relief Fund to help us continue assisting individuals with food security, mental health, and other means of piecing their lives back together from the traumatic ethnic cleansing they faced in late 2023. AGBU is forever grateful to the humanitarians who are helping those in need. Link: https://lnkd.in/ecVRHDiB

Dr. Albert Gulyan came of age when the then-Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia enjoyed great respect in the global scientific community. However, today, he laments how the national pride he experienced during those flourishing years at the renowned Armenian Academy of Sciences has diminished due to a lack of government support for hard sciences since independence. In this explanatory piece from the latest issue of AGBU Magazine, you’ll learn why Dr. Gulyan believes that, without science, a nation cannot gain the competitive edge to move forward. Armenia sent 15 athletes to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, nearly a third of whom will return home with medals. Team Armenia won four at the Olympics: three silvers and one bronze. In the vault competition for gymnastics, Artur Davtyan took silver, and Varazdat Lalayan won silver in weightlifting for the men’s +102 kg.   Ultimately, it was wrestling where Armenia performed the best at the 2024 Games. Artur Aleksanyan won silver in the Greco-Roman 97 kg category, and Malkhas Amoyan took bronze for the 77 kg. Congratulations to these four incredible athletes for their wins and to all who represented Armenia proudly! 📷: International Olympic Committee – IOC
