About us
Agoric is committed to making strong security easier to achieve. Creating secure smart contracts using today’s technology is inherently difficult. That difficulty has limited both the number of applications created, and the number of programmers qualified to create them. We are developing an open, JavaScript-based, object-capability (ocap) programming layer to address both issues. The Agoric ocap layer will include robust security properties beyond anything available today, and it will provide that security across substrates, from local machines to global blockchains.

We all love narratives, and let's be honest - they play a massive role in crypto. Below is objectively BEST and WORST narratives in crypto 2024. The set below shows narrative’s power now compared to start of the year (January 2024) - AI is among the strongest narratives in 2024. The % is relatively low due to high base effect for AI which was the leader narrative since 2023, and parabolic growth of the AI sector itself. - DeFi is crypto’s reaction to all institutions onboarded via ETFs. More money, more management, more strategies and tools required. Retail believe BlackRock and similar will stick with their usual spray and pray in DeFI too. AAVE and Compound raise heads slowly , Ethena getting up to speed, many new stars in the space. - Memes are second best after AI in the last few weeks. Uncle Justin and one infamous market maker managed to defibrillate pump.fun’s clone on Tron. Sentiment around pump.fun is the worst on the market so no wonder memes move around. This short-lived speculation will inevitably lead degens back to Solana. Still I think memes are on their dying breath. - L2s as "extensions of Ethereum" or "separate blockchains with separate economics" sparked many conversations; controversial for Ethereum but much more promising for L2s. Some bet on L2s as a proxy for Ethereum with a potentially higher upside. To make 2X, ETH needs +320B in market cap. Similar action requires 6B on Arbitrum/Optimism and 30 times less on Blast. Totally makes sense from retail’s perspective. ⁃ BRC20 is the largest looser in 2024. Attention switched from Ordinals/Runes post-halving. Also a victim of high base effect, for this topic was among the leaders in 2023. Takes one strong L2 solution to revive the entire Bitcoin sector, and I know for a fact that very smart founders have been building for more than two years now. - Halving and ETF have disappointed many naive traders who expected short-term effects. Neither of the two added to retail interest or actual liquidity. If anything, ETFs extract liquidity from the market, not adding it as they accumulate. ALL post-ETF buyers party in the red zone, while others boo’ing on social media. ⁃ Liquid staking and restaking both took a bit of damage since 2023. EIGEN, Renzo, Etherfi are doing great job building relatively safe ETH pyramids. - Gaming is yet to soar once we have the first AAA trailblazer. Until then bag holders like myself cope. - RWA are growing slightly but I don’t think they get enough credit. Business positioning and marketing in the sector is a wreck could be one reason, legal complexities is another. What intrigues me most is chain abstraction (+673%) and account abstraction (+43%). I don’t imagine these infra-esque solutions are designed to be speculative. So it’s either market healed itself and focused on utility all of a sudden (what a wonderful world that would be) OR we are in the BEAR 🐻 building phase of the market. Data by Kaito.
