AGRICULTURE TRANSPORTATION COALITION (AgTC)

Most Americans have no idea how dependent we are on the Canadian railroads, the Canadian ports they serve. Those routes carry massive volumes of agriculture exports origin at US farms and processing facilities. And even more consumer imports from Asia, destined to US stores and distribution facilities. Yes, there are some alternate routes via US ports, and US railroads to get our agriculture and forest products exports, as well as import, through our US ports – but there is only so much capacity on our railroads and at the the US marine terminals. Already, well before Canadian rail service/work stoppage actually happens, the congestion is rearing its disruptive and costly head. Today over 100 members of AGRICULTURE TRANSPORTATION COALITION (AgTC) updated on both the ILA and Canadian rail labor contract negotiations, and the disruption already being felt. Michael Angell at the JOC wrote an interesting article about increasing concern at the FMC about export receiving dates, of which the earliest receiving date (ERD) is the headliner but not the only relevant data point. At the AGRICULTURE TRANSPORTATION COALITION (AgTC) annual meeting in May, I spoke about this very problem and broke down its origins. The root causes will take time to solve, but until then, SPLICE has developed a comprehensive solution that connects to your supply chain system (e.g. TMS) without needing to buy a whole new platform. We cleanse and cross-reference the data to provide timely, accurate and transparent export receiving dates from ocean carriers and terminals. Extremely glad to see this inland loading point.we have been beating the drum for many years in the AGRICULTURE TRANSPORTATION COALITION (AgTC) for the West Coast to catch up with the East Coast. More of these are essential to increasing cargo fluidity for ag exports along the West Coast. Anything we can do to support this project and others in California Oregon Washington Idaho Utah Nevada Arizona...actually all the way across the Midwest, we absolutely will! Peter

Thank you Lori Ann LaRocco for working to gain clarification of the implementation of the new Detention & Demurrage Billing Rule, specificallly your American Shipper article of June 3 - there is complexity in its practical application, and we can be grateful to you for digging into the specifics, and for bringing the practical questions forward to the FMC. To the extent that you can obtain the guidance the trade requires, in a relatively speedier and less formal manner than would be the case in a formal rulemaking, the entire maritime commerce of the US benefits. Thank you, and keep it up, very important work you are doing.
