🎉 Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month 🎉
From Velazquez to Dali, Kahlo to Basquiat, Latinx artists have made a vibrant and lasting impact on the art and design world. In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we invited the #AIGADesign community to uplift the talented Latinx designers making their mark. So let's honor them this month...and every month!

🖌️ Professor of Graphic Design, College of the Canyons
🪪 AIGA Los Angeles and DEI Chair
"My work is informed and driven by my experience as a first-generation Mexican-American college graduate and graphic designer. My creative and teaching practices use design to address social issues, expand the canon of design history, and contribute to a more inclusive and representative visual landscape.
My passion for design found its purpose when I learned about the LEED Architectural System, which became a model for imagining design as a tool to address social issues. I co-founded Parallel-Play in 2009, where I have built relationships with clients who are invested in standing in the equity gaps created by systemic marginalization.
In 2014, I took my practice to the next level by joining the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA—where I serve as faculty within a Hispanic-serving institution in the same community I grew up in. This role has expanded my influence, allowing me to impart valuable knowledge to community college students representing a more diverse cross-section of Los Angeles's multicultural population. In this role, I have successfully mentored students into prestigious design programs, helping them secure scholarships and grants to minimize their educational expenses. I have also had the great pleasure of hosting awe-inspiring lectures from designers and thinkers like Silas Munro, Schessa Garbutt, Antonio Diaz, Sadie Red Wing, Dewey Saunders, and most recently, Dr. Dori Tunstall.
I've been a longtime member of AIGA and recently joined the AIGA Los Angeles Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Team. I am excited to work alongside Director Michelle LeClerc and Co-Chair Nick Carranza.
Historically, Latinx histories, graphic designers, and culture have been overwhelmingly under-celebrated by the design community. It's encouraging to see this beginning to change, and I am proud to contribute to that continued momentum."
💖 We love how a sense of warmth and celebration comes right through her design work—and how her super-saturated tableaux infuse poignant social commentary with maximalism!
